It’s #RightToReadDay.
NEW data from @oif.bsky.social shows that 72% of book bans in 2024 were initiated by organized groups and elected officials. We need EVERYONE to #UniteAgainstBookBans & take action against these organized attempts today: uniteagainstbookbans.org/right-to-rea... #DrawnToFreedom

In the future, all these books by politicians will be forgotten while the books they're trying to ban will remain classics and live on for generations.

I'm very excited to see an Indigenous imprint that will have all the resources of a major publisher! We need more Indigenous voices in our media!

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

just stumbled on a real jaw-dropper of a line in an essay -- β€œThe corollary of being interested in a great range of things is to have sympathy with a great range of outlooks” -- and that, my friends, is why reading is so important.

Your regular reminder that the first known clinic to offer gender-affirming surgeries was … destroyed by Nazis.

In 1933.

That being said, none my material is being used in the promotion. The book is focusing on its main feature but it is an anthology - I contributed a 6-page WWII tragedy with absolutely FANTASTIC art by @stipanmorian.bsky.social! Its an "issue 0" of a planned 3-part series, with #1 well underway!

I find a list of prompts every year. The last few years they've been from the Goodreads group Around the Year in 52 Books. The prompts help me dig forgotten titles out of my to-read list.

I do set a number goal as well but it's do-able instead of aspirational just to keep me reading.

I find physical books to be the most immersive and enjoyable but I need the time to read them. I mostly listen to audiobooks because I can read while I do the other things I have to do. I read a lot of digital comics because they are quick and hoopla digital makes access easy.

If you feel overwhelmed by the deluge of bad news streaming out of Washington, that's by design.

Instead of feeling helpless in the face of it all, pick one or two issues that speak to you deeply and concentrate on pushing back on those.

This is not a sprint. Saving the Republic is a marathon.

That moment when you realize you've borrowed a comic from the library that you already own.

At least Off Menu (by Oliver Gerlach and Kelsi Jo Silva) is cute enough to pick up twice!
