SO MUCH GRIFTING
SO MUCH GRIFTING
WSJ: Gen. Caine βsaid in several briefings that U.S. officials had long believed Iran would deploy mines, drones and missiles to close the worldβs most vital shipping lane ..
β.. Trump acknowledged the risk, these people said, but moved forward ..β

We have a Congress who for all intents and purposes have given all of their power to the president on foreign policy. Would be great if they would actually do their jobs and be a co-equal branch of government.
Fellow academics out there, it's time to man the parapets. Sam Altman wants to sell our students "knowledge" on a freaking meter. medium.com/predict/youl...

If you care about cities, these are people you should be following. Glad that I can be part of that conversation
MAGA world doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks of the US (except for maybe Bibi and Putin, but just a little), but the world will show the US how spurned they feel. The antipathy is growing by the day in most of Asia...

Meanwhile in Russia: experts explained why Russia is poised to become the main beneficiary of an Iran war, mocked Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth, and predicted that "more and more coffins" will be coming back to America.

Honestly I need historians to be the plaintiffs in every case I cover because if they make it to discovery you just KNOW those primary sources are going public.

Hard as it is, I still thank traditional probability samples, over the phone or in person, are still superior to most online panels. It really comes down to cost and commitment.
Reminder that people who had high trust in Musk and Doge scored high in "need for chaos" in our research:
theconversation.com/a-need-for-c...
The article notes that βonlyβ ~15% of respondents showed solid support for the βchaosβ answers. (They also were strong Trump and Musk supporters.)
But Trumpβs solid, unshakable base is, what, 30% or so, right?
That would suggest ~half his base are ppl who want to burn it all down. That seems big.
The next time you pay more than you should to see your favorite artist, you can thank Donald Trump for that.
Happy birthday dear James. ππ

FBI failuresβsuch as not finding Charlie Kirkβs killer despite the FBI Director and deputyβs personal involvementβare more likely due to gutting investigatory capacity with political purges and putting corrupt incompetents in charge, not because officers didnβt put the suspect in a proper arm bar.
As an IR professor, it's depressing that this is outperforming all others as the best theory of US foreign policy

NEW: We just published a deep dive into just how much billionaires are now dominating U.S. politics.
We found 300 billionaire families accounted for 19% of federal donations in 2024. The deluge was even larger in many state and local races.

I watched the first two and thought exactly the same thing. The replication of the tone is nearly perfect, which is kind of odd given that the cast are all 20 years older.

What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?
In genuine social research, precision matters. I tell my students this all the time.
