I wonder if this mother will regret her decision if her child suffers brain damage or dies. I also wonder whether her marriage, and her relationships with her surviving children, will survive a negative outcome.

I pay a lot more than that for meds now, despite insurance. I sincerely doubt med prices will drop precipitously if they go OTC; anything the Republicans propose only benefits oligarchs and corporations, and shifts costs to ordinary folk. And the US isn't like other countries or we'd have UHC.

But over the counter drugs are not covered by insurance. Can you afford to pay out of pocket for medically necessary drugs in the US? I can't!

Watched a double feature of Chu Chin Chow (1934) and Mr. Cinders (1935) at an art house cinema. The latter was a charming comedy, the former a boring stinker.

Pre-release:
The Black Cauldron (1985)
Went to a theater to see another film, found a huge line for an unnamed "sneak peek." The audience went wild when the title appeared; I hated Gurgi.
Also saw Return to Oz (1985) when it opened; freaky film that died at the box office, became a cult classic.

Maybe they hoarded ivermectin during the pandemic and are now desperately trying to "prove" it's a cure for any scourge other than parasites?

Your objection must have been noted; I just checked the NYT and the offending sentence has been removed, and the entire article restructured to emphasize the racism inherent in this trope.

I remember Lorraine Day, aka Dr. Doom, who suspected aerosol transmission of HIV and donned a "space suit" for orthopedic surgery.

How I Lost My Daughter to Measles
Measles has a terrible side effect most people donβt know about.
Sure, if you don't count children that develop hearing loss, pneumonia, acute encephalitis, or sub acute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) which inevitably leads to a miserable death.

An unidentified man dressed in a Batman costume angrily confronted Santa Clara city officials during a joint meeting of the City Council, city authorities, and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority on Monday, using his public comment to condemn the cityβs stance on cooperation with ICE.

Listened to ep. 1 on the Pocket Cast app: solid info, engaging presentation, but completely unedited. The 1 hour spoken portion included outtakes & was followed by 2 hours of silence. Did someone accidentally load the raw audiofile? Guessing a steep podcast learning curve, will continue to listen!

Youβve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. Iβm the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.
The article appears to be partly paywalled and I would encourage anyone who can afford it to subscribe, Slate's got a hell of a sale going right now and subscriptions are how they can afford to pay freelancers for articles like this one
For my fellow brokies, though:

The People headline is clickbait. The actual article smacks of hagiography until the last five paragraphs. The author buried the lede; if she is being doxed and attacked, it's for the wrong reasons.

The People headline reads more like clickbait; the actual article smacks of hagiography until the final five paragraphs. Looks more like reluctance to speak the truth about the dead, and a hope that few will bother to read the entire article.
