This week I interviewed @amoebic.bsky.social for Last Save Lounge. It was so joyful to hear her talk about Tetris and the joy surrounding it.
The episode is now LIVE wherever you get your podcasts, with video versions available on Spotify & YouTube. Check it out!

With the launch of Last Save Lounge, I want to be more vulnerable about the video games that helped define who I am, so here we go.
The Games That Made Me - The Artful Escape, is now live. I hope you enjoy it.
I think this story is a really good example for people to look at when it comes to understanding bias at NYT. It's not that the reporter, Dana Rubinstein, says anything outright false. But the framing, word choices, etc., add up to an unprofessional and biased account.
Pretty sure this a TTRPG monk who is rolling stats down the line and is about to have a character with 15 STR.
A Cornell study: Sycophantic AI Decreases Prosocial Intentions and Promotes Dependence Both the general public and academic communities have raised concerns about sycophancy , the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) excessively agreeing with or flattering users. Yet, beyond isolated media reports of severe consequences, like rein- forcing delusions, little is known about the extent of sycophancy or how it affects people who use AI. Here we show the pervasiveness and harmful impacts of sycophancy when people seek advice from AI. First, across 11 state-of-the-art AI models, we find that models are highly sycophantic: they affirm users’ actions 50% more than humans do, and they do so even in cases where user queries mention manipulation, decep- tion, or other relational harms. Second, in two preregistered experiments (N = 1604), including a live-interaction study where participants discuss a real interpersonal conflict from their life, we find that interaction with sycophantic AI models significantly
reduced participants’ willingness to take actions to repair interpersonal conflict, while increasing their conviction of being in the right. However, participants rated sycophan- tic responses as higher quality, trusted the sycophantic AI model more, and were more willing to use it again. This suggests that people are drawn to AI that unquestioningly validate, even as that validation risks eroding their judgment and reducing their incli- nation toward prosocial behavior. These preferences create perverse incentives both for people to increasingly rely on sycophantic AI models and for AI model training to favor sycophancy. Our findings highlight the necessity of explicitly addressing this incentive structure to mitigate the widespread risks of AI sycophancy.

Okay I just read the quote about AI, Blood Meridian, and making mistakes and it makes me want to Walk Into The Ocean.
Fun fact: the reason it's called Silicon Valley is because they're all silly, it's all a con, and it's led to a real low point

WAIT A MINUTE.
We already lost an hour of sleep yesterday, and these copters are like “what if you lost some more?”
It is so funny to go directly from “we need to stop being elitist, and connect with the vast middle of the country and the things they care about” to “we will be aggressively covering the mayor of New York City nonstop”.

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.
Low key one of my favorite things about Qud is that almost every power feels game-breaking and creates bespoke chaos.
my hot take regarding art about bad people is that you cannot make art that is morally upright enough that fascists will not co-opt it, and if you let that stop you from making art about villains, antiheroes, & fascists then you then remove art's ability to be a place where we can think about evil

It’s so surprisingly refreshing to have a video game’s default positioning be to trust the player to stick with it if things aren’t immediately clear.
I think one thing I dig about games like Caves of Qud and Banquet for Fools is that they treat me like an adult who can figure shit out instead of a total dumbass.
If you want to chat about this game on a podcast, Gamers With Jobs would love to have you on for an interview! Just drop me a dm.
Trading suit jackets with Paula Vogel at an opening night party led to me replacing Michael Imperioli in an indie feature.
So many games wouldn’t bother to deploy peak writing into the description of one chair, let alone multiple.
adventure games from the 80s were intentionally designed to be tricky, mean and occasionally counterintuitive so that you could get stuck for long periods of time. this was called “value for your dollar”
Banquet For Fools is a totally unique gem of a game. It feels simultaneously like it is a delightful throwback and a novel discovery of mechanical and aesthetic possibility. I really dug Serpent and the Staglands but the latest from @hannahjosephrpg.bsky.social is next level.
So, what you're telling me is this sweaty sack of shit really desperately wants the world to believe he was responsible for murdering 168 schoolgirls.
