2024 was pretty blackpilling (to use one of their phrases) for a lot of us.
Ironically, listening to a lot of modern country music helped me understand it to a degree, albeit not in ways that made me optimistic.

The South ending Reconstruction and plunging their populations into a backward looking culture and economy until it was forced to modernize by the Civil Rights movement is imo a very clean parallel.
Weirdly enough this is one thing where not eating meat helps. I'd take the gross bug thing over the chicken any day, and you could probably get me to do it for like $250 and a promise to video my reaction.
ONE GOOD THING HAPPENED THIS WEEK!
Ok but the vibes of West Redding Station are unmatched. Feels like a tiny town in a movie, and then BAM you're in Manhattan.
A pretty easy definition of antisemitism is not understanding the difference between "don't hate Jewish people because of their religion" and "Netanyahu is good".
(Same applies to people who blame all Muslims for the actions of the Saudi government, but you might have issues with that too)
That wasn't as cool as you thought it sounded imo
Never had a Nazi tattoo.
Wish there were other options, but...
We should in fact maintain strict vigilance about "is it that you're against the bad stuff Israel is doing, or is it that you're a fucking antisemite???"
The Platner candidacy, at this point, seems pretty expressly premised on "no we shouldn't"
They’re right though
Almost certainly true, and another opportunity to remember that Netanyahu would willingly trade away the safety of every Jew on earth to save his own political career and avoid going to prison for his crimes.
For the many Platner fans here, Peters is a white supremacist, Holocast denying / antisemetic, virulently anti-trans anti-gay right-wing influencer. There's no lack of people making similar points that Platner could be reading and promoting who are not nazis.
Then there are things like Santa Fe’s architectural requirements. They totally add to the city’s tourist draw at the cost of more housing, BUT also are pivotal in making the city a completely unique part of the American cultural landscape.
I think there’s space for all of it!
IMO there’s a crucial line between “infrastructure that is only for tourists” and “infrastructure that tourists love but that also benefits locals”. The Sphere versus the Met - both giant tourist draws but the Met is an indispensable part of local culture.
The one Dem I have ever refused to "Vote blue no matter who on" was Cuomo back when he was governor.
Just saying I'm glad I don't live in Maine or that number might go up.
Yesterday was awesome, the parks were packed with people.
I am very AI-skeptical, but the idea that this is all fake and will disappear in a few years is copium on a level seldom seen since last November.
You're getting dangerously close to Bad Bunny discourse
Love how he does these when the market is closed now
so genuinely: uh, what was Merrick Garland doing with the Epstein files, given uh, it's brought down a royal and multiple Euro politicians/
So this is just the Harris-Walz font, right?
As someone who wrote so many StayNJ-based posts for candidates, that election will truly haunt me until the day I die
Anecdotally in MA, a lot of the generationally-wealthy NIMBY class doesn’t even know that migration is happening. Their friends also all own properties and they can usually shoehorn their kids in somewhere (or their kids live in NY/CT/DC/etc) and they completely miss the middle class exodus south.
The man is not well
*taps sign*
The future of West Coast urbanism is Seattle and nothing has yet to make me change my mind on that.
. @demgovs.org really coming through for all of us JBP/CRJ fans (there are dozens of us!)
a very persistent thing on here is
poster a: untrue claim about a political figure - often a justly dislikable or objectionable one
poster b: correction of untrue claim
poster a: oh so you support them
it's part of the general comprehension collapse but it's a distinct dynamic.
Some of the research into the "happiest" countries points to contentment and purpose ultimately being much more meaningful than immediate happiness. But we are fundamentally just brainy monkeys who fail that marshmallow test all the time.
E só para dizer, adoro os meus amigos brasileiros porque eles adoram esse tipo de zoeira tanto quanto eu!
To be fair, a lot seem to be specifically from Brazil, which has long had a national *thing* about US cultural influence (namely, being super into it while aggressively claiming to be above it).
