At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.

This is their plan:
Step 1: exploit legitimate pain suffered by young people and families caused by online harm
Step 2: implement government-mandated online ID checks to "keep kids away from harmful content"
Step 3: define all LGBTQ content as "harmful to kids"

The NY Mag piece, wittingly or not, captures the clubby elite atmosphere that 1% of journalists actually inhabitate. This is what ppl mean when they refer to elite journalists talking only to themselves.
So when the nyt continues to push its anti-trans stories even as we face broad and lasting bigotry, we know it tells a lot about their character:
