i've been doing this weekly silent peace walk with some (cis) women in our neighborhood, each tuesday morning, and i was thinking — after copious interpellations of our group as "ladies" — of mentioning that i wasn't born as a woman; and then i laughed at myself and thought, well, neither were they.

gosh I just stumbled across this — it’s such a brilliant piece of reflexive writing and I’m glad to read it — though it must have been a lot in every sense to work on this text, I can only imagine.
it's one of those things that our cookbooks often mention — "this dish can be made a day ahead" or at least "this part of the dish can be made a day ahead" — but i don't usually think about that.
i'm curious, if you were having people over for dinner, and you needed to do most of the cooking the day before, what you would make?

I am so much happier working outside academia than I was in it, for all the same reasons as you. The main downside is that I don’t feel as existentially invested in my work projects as I used to in academia and like (gestures at the modern corporate form), but it turns out I find it very livable.

yeah it was an ambiguous transaction… i also at one point insisted on carrying a bag of fertilizer myself and i felt like this was slightly bruising to his sense of chivalry…
