I know I'm more than a day late on this, but for some reason it came across my feed now โ I confirmed with Sanofi today that they haven't yet shipped the Novavax shot, so it isn't available anywhere. They plan to start shipping next week.

There are so many things wrong with Canvas already, and this is what they decide is important.
โWhat if itโs a hoax and we create a better world for nothing?โ
15+ years old, but still VERY relevent โ and if we had acted 15 years ago, the โbetter worldโ weโd be creating would be a LOT better & easier to reach. There are real consequences weโre just starting to see to not heeding this cartoon a lot sooner.
Even worse if we donโt heed it now. #ClimateCrisis

This isnโt a webinar. Itโs a live reflection session for professors, postdocs, and other PhDs who arenโt sure whether to stay in academia. One hour. No slides. No pressure. Register for free or pass it on. #PhDSky
This is also happening in Michigan. Michigan State University will lose ~$10 million in these funding cuts, and is laying off 120 MSU Extension workers who teach nutrition education to people across the state. I will link in thread below how you can take action.
Table shows number of deaths from heart disease, respiratory distress, diabetes, cancer, stroke, Alzheimerโs drug overdose, suicide, Covid/flu. For each condition, they list the institute they funds that research and the amount of proposed funding cuts. These range from 36% to 40%
Making America Healthy Again by defunding research on cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimerโs is anโฆinteresting, and reckless, strategy

I was trying to come up with an analogy and the best I could think of was "imagine if you were sick and the government denied access to modern medicine and forced you to rely on outdated 19th century stuff" and, oh
A major reason we have so few Black physicians is the 1910 Flexner Report that closed almost every medical school that primarily served Black students. This scholarship was an effort to correct that historical error, and UAB just terminated it and gave the money back to the sponsoring family.
I also love when they take my BP after I drove in morning traffic and having to find a parking spot. ๐ฉ
Today marks the 44th anniversary of the publication in the MMWR of a new syndrome that we now know as AIDS www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview... (MMWR 1981;30:250--2). Much progress since then but much remains to be done.
This might be a good time to recall Arnold Relman's wise words: "There really is no such thing as alternative medicine-- only medicine that has been proved to work and medicine that hasn't."

The cover of The Lancet with this quote from our commentary: "If we in academic medicine give in to the campaigns against diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, the consequences will include resegregation and fewer opportunities for marginalised groups."
Holy smokes! Our article is on the cover of The Lancet!!!!!!!!!! Nbd ๐

Interesting article about current commercial fitness landscape. I saw on someoneโs account their Goldโs Gym in El Paso abruptly closed this week.

Starting on Wednesday, travelers in the U.S. will need a Real ID, passport or other federally recognized document to board domestic flights, a requirement that has sent many Americans scrambling for the security-enhanced, star-emblazoned identification cards.
Hi, Iโm God.
How many pandemics must I send before humans once again learn to revere scientists?
How many millions must die? Not trying to be dramatic, just earnestly inquiring for My Notes.
Thanks,

This is why itโs so frustrating that RFKโs food dye distraction is getting so much coverage. Salmonella is much worse for you!

#CDC was notified of 6 more kids who died from #flu this season. They bring the total to date to 204, the third highest count since CDC started collecting pediatric death data in 2004-05. The worst year, 2009-10, was the year of the #H1N1 pandemic.

This comes up every so often: its a health argument to effectively make SNAP more burdensome (more like WIC), which means that fewer people will use the benefit. On the whole people are better having access to SNAP, rather than strangling the program in burdens.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they donโt die.
Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
