Love to see a metroidvania where the character has a personality and opinions and grows over the course of the game, it's a nice change of pace from the silent/single-minded protagonist that helps you feel involved in an actively ongoing story (not that the other approach can't be fun too)
I played Nine Sols recently and found it right at the edge of being too challenging for me, but I ended up loving it. Basically "what if Sekiro in 2D" with a mix of sci-fi and traditional Chinese aesthetics (the devs call it Taopunk). Great story, great bosses, one of my favorite recent games
