Thank you, Katie. That means a lot coming from you. I told Zuzana her use of language (at least in this novel) is the most creative I’ve translated by a living writer apart from Jáchym’s. It was a delight to bring into English!

"Íránské a afghánské ženy nezačaly svůj boj teprve tehdy, když si jich všiml Západ. Emancipace v jejich zemích má dlouhou a konkrétní historii" Včera na MDŽ mi vyšel na @denikreferendum.cz delší text o tom, jak rozumím emancipací.

“Jafarian said at least 1,255 people have been killed in Iran, including 200 children and 11 healthcare workers. Their ages ranged from eight months to 88. […] More than 12,000 people have also been wounded, mostly from burns and crush injuries, he added.”

“The video, uploaded on Sunday by Iran’s semiofficial Mehr News Agency and verified by The New York Times, shows a Tomahawk cruise missile striking a naval base beside the school in the town of Minab on Feb. 28. The US military is the only force involved in the conflict that uses Tomahawk missiles.”

Clara Zetkin, a German socialist came up with the idea of International Women’s Day. In 1910, at the International Socialist Women’s Conference in Copenhagen, she proposed the creation of an annual international day to advocate for women’s rights, including suffrage, labor rights, and equality. 🧵1/4

This day in history the first International Women’s Day was observed in Russia in 1913. At that time, in Russia the women went on strike for "Bread for Peace” demanding the end to World War I, Czarism, and the shortage of food in Russia eventually leading to the Russian Revolution.

I used to hate International Women's Day until I spent the day in Tijuana where it was a riot against the patriarchy. Where race and imperialism was at its core.

Happy International Women's Day to the women who fight.

screenshot of text::"The United Nations instituted International Women’s Day (IWD) in 1975—or so the official story runs. Few remember not only that the origins of March 8 lie in the history of the international workers’ movement, but that it was the socialist movement in the United States that first launched the idea of a day devoted to women’s rights centered on working-class women. In fact, the Socialist Party USA first established a day of education and action around women’s rights called “Woman’s Day” in 1908, and the following year U.S. socialists held demonstrations in several cities to demand women’s suffrage. In 1910, German socialist Clara Zetkin proposed the transformation of the U.S. Woman’s Day into an international day of action—International Working Women’s Day—which, in 1914, started being celebrated on March 8. Three years later, on March 8, 1917, Russian women workers took to the streets in St. Petersburg, organizing a strike to demand bread and peace. It was the beginning of the Russian Revolution."

Dozens killed as Israeli special forces raid Lebanese village in search of 40-year-old remains Overnight, one Israeli operation saw at least 41 people killed and 40 injured, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

Pretty serious allegation here. "Witnesses told the BBC that the Israeli soldiers had arrived disguised in Lebanese military fatigues and used ambulances with signs of Hezbollah's Islamic Health Organization."

It’s already happening. Iran attacked a desalination plant in Bahrain.

This war has to end immediately. If it turns into a water war we will be dealing with a whole different level of a humanitarian catastrophe across the region.
