She mimics the adults. Credit goes to the little actress who is a fucking natural and to the direction, but most child characters annoy the absolute shit out of me. She's not really a plot device, but a real character like everyone else.

Another thing about Pursuit of Jade (NO I'M NOT DONE) is what it does with it's child character. The child character looks and acts like a CHILD. She doesn't add tidbits of wisdom. She's not there for comic relief. She's a child. She cries when her pet leaves. She gets in fights. She gets dirty.

Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.
