Yesterday I filmed several baby birds walking across a street directly at my camera and asked Bluesky to suggest music

Several dozen folks did

Some even dubbed music over the original clip.

I haven't been able to get this out of my head.

So I give you

A Bluesky exclusive:

Because in 1847, starving Irish people were really pivoting to peach habanero to flavourmaxx that nettle soup

That can be argued both ways. My mum drove an Austin 1100 and there's nothing like that either.

You and me both. I figured that a sport that institutionalises handball will also have way more than 3 points for a win.

The phrasing of that reminds me of the Troubles, when organisations would be reported to have "claimed responsibility" or "admitted responsibility." That's a whole other level of denial at a distance.

Also, how profoundly sad it is to get to the point where you recognise the handwriting of individual civil servants so you already know what they're gonna say before you've even read the document.

Loved this. I'm kinda tempted towards a blog post about archives from the user's point of view and how the contents continually startle: photos; scraps of material culture where you expect to see memos; posters/handbills...

Very strong statement from the First Lady of Iraq:

Can't remember where I saw it, but the perfect retort is "Can you please talk a bit louder? I can't eavesdrop on your conversation over all that racket on the stage"

Was at that too. Dozens of people sitting on the steps of the old train station (later Odeon) afterwards, all clutching their ears and groaning.

This hairdresser down the road from me in Cherry Orchard, Dublin, made a valiant effort. There's a whole sub-genre of hairdressers and barbers that have taken this route...

During my only appearance in court, the Garda told the judge, "At approximately 10:30 last night, I arrested the defendant Kieran Glennon in possession of a bucket of paste."

A great thread on history, heritage and the yawning chasm between those who make both and those who "do" both

You obviously read way more than me, but I'll just point to the last book I read, Iris Murdoch's "The Sea, The Sea." Her Charles Arrowby reminded me of the lad in "A Conspiracy of Dunces," but the pair of them taken together are completely unlike any character I recall reading in anything else.

A brilliant argument for the dizzying scope of humanity.

1. Even if Epstein was never born, these attacks on Iran would still have happened. This is Trump & Netanyahu doing what they always intended to do.

2. I believe that in a couple of years it'll emerge that a major Trump-donor US company yesterday offered the Iranians a cut-price deal on body bags.

My da's Uncle Miko was one of the Volunteers at Rineen. But until 2011, my da didn't even know he had an Uncle Miko. That year, in the middle of a mad homecoming voyage of discovery, we visited the ambush memorial.

Long Covid robbed her nibs of the teaching job she loved, and her health. Got infected by one of the little madams in April 2021, the first day the schools re-opened. Only in her 50s, had to take early retirement on medical grounds as she'll never be able to work again.

Ah, but had the accelerationist crowd also been infiltrated themselves?

You may just have exposed the Russian dolls model under which Irish republicans have been operating all along.

Our one comes round regular as clockwork every day around 5ish, and has done all through the winter - Cherry Orchard, D10.

Got a bit interesting for a while last year when a newcomer playing a different tune appeared. Had visions of an ice cream van turf war. But "Colonel Bogie" didn't last long.
