Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility.
Thereβs much to do everywhere so that trans and non-binary people can live without fear.
Our single point of reflection is this:
whatβs your organisation doing to support trans+ people?
Pleased to say that @asn-amnat.bsky.social The American Society of Naturalists (and its journal, The American Naturalist) are closing their X account down. If you aren't already following @asn-amnat.bsky.social for great science in evolution, ecology, and organismal biology, do so.

The Biology Anti-racism Committee hosted the first Decolonising Science Public Lecture at St Andrews yesterday. Prof. Joseph Graves spoke about the science of 'race' and racism, with a focus on how racism, not 'race', causes medical disparities. Thanks @gravesjl55.bsky.social for a great talk!

@asn-amnat.bsky.social has an open call for proposals for a symposium in the Virtual Evolution meeting. It would be especially nice to get proposals that go against current US political trends: on climate, education, underrepresented voices, etc. give someone a lift up.
Looking for recommendations for PhD level courses (in Europe/UK) on microbiomes and shotgun metagenomics for animal microbiomes. Have you or your PhD done a course and would recommend it? Then I would love to hear about it!
Hey BlueSkyers, weβre finalizing a #meta-analysis π on comparative studies examining the link between #SexualSelection and #Speciation. If you have unpublished data or know of studies that might not surface in a systematic search, please reach out - weβd love to include them!

We have a postdoc position available in the lab on post-copulatory barriers in hybridizing crickets. We have genomic data ready to be analyzed and crickets ready for experiments. This is a great collaborative group and a study system with a lot of potential for new projects. Join us!
Science takes time - a lot of time. Time that is more and more difficult to make available because of increased workloads. Time that exceeds the temporary contracts of postdocs and PhDs.
I'll illustrate this using our paper published in Nature yesterday. 𧡠(1/x)

Looking to upgrade my microscope camera! I currently have a 1.5MP camera designed for sperm tracking, which isn't great for taking nice images of sperm. I'd like to get one with better resolution (maybe >5MP) and at least 30fps. Any favorite models? Ones to avoid?
A PhD position is available here at NHM Oslo in the βSex and Evolution Research Group (SERG)β that I am part of: www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...
This is a great research environment, so consider applying if youβre looking for a PhD on passerine birds and mate choice. Deadline: 3 March!
New paper: "Synthesis and Scope of the Role of Postmating Prezygotic Isolation in Speciation",where we review mechanisms & importance of barriers acting after mating before fertilization in promoting &/or maintaining species divergence.
