A pika sits on a mossy rock.
Tighter crop of the same pika, focusing on its head.
An even tighter crop, focusing more on the pika's eye.
An extremely tight crop of the pika's eye, emphasizing their reflection of an early morning mountain scene.
"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"
Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.

A fly sits on a person's pair of pants.
We saw this curious fly in Shenandoah National Park a couple years ago. It was pretty interesting looking with the longer proboscis. Anyone know what type it is? #flies #insects #nationalparks #entomology

Super cool research from @wildcru.bsky.social - Ethiopian wolves doing pollination work. Wolfination work.

Sunlight shines from above through two redwood trees and makes the green leaves of smaller trees shine brightly.
Loved getting to go see the majestic trees of Redwood National Park this summer. #nationalparks #trees #California

Last night we went to see "The Outsiders" theater production at our daughter's high school. My favorite part was how they did this big rumble scene with stage combat toward the end.

Defense played well but was just on the field too long. Looks like the Steelers and Eagles figured out our offensive scheme a bit more than other teams too. Probably have more talent as well on their defenses. We will be alright.

A raccoon hangs in a hammock looking at the camera at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center.
My family recently brought some donations to Nirvana Ridge Wildlife Rescue in Virginia. They help animals like foxes, raccoons, and opposums prepare for their return to the wild. The raccoons enjoy resting in these small hammocks since it simulates how they rest in safe places in the wild. So cool.

A bright green katydid on a yellow native sunflower.
I love when nature gives you such pure colors together. This was one of my favorite insect sightings in our native plant gardens this summer.
