Should patients seen in #SDEC #AmbulatoryCare receive #VTE prophylaxis?
Our data #WarwickMedSchool @susie-shapiro.bsky.social show VTE rate in SDEC as high as hospitalised patients.
Ability to ambulate does NOT equal reduced VTE risk.

As the only Jew at my pre-school, naturally I played Mary. I apparently chucked baby Jesus into the manger by his ankleβ¦
This is a valuable initiative. But I canβt help but feel sad that the reason bypass units like these are necessary is in part because we as a wider institution have failed these patients time and time again. Many reasons for this but institutional racism being one.
Interesting info on sickle cell disease ED bypass units.

Over on βthe place that must not be namedβ I am seeing so many posts about #SVIN24 - I am wondering if there were many delegates from outside the US? It looked like a great meeting.
Where is geriatric medicine please?

Interesting article in AHA Stroke Journal about over-prescription of statins in stroke patients.
No clear evidence of benefit in absence of atherosclerotic disease, and potential to harm.
A reminder that it's important to personalise not protocolise treatment.
