This month and beyond, we see you and are in solidarity with you always. π«Ά
All year round, we must uplift those who have influenced our history, fought for our rights, demanded better, and carried many historical movements on their backs.
ID: illustration of Black woman with natural hair in an updo with bangs. She is wearing a red t-shirt with βBlack history every dayβ lettered on the front, and the first names of the people above written on the sleeves. She is also wearing yellow glasses and a gold nameplate necklace with the word βShiningβ on it.
Black History Month is a time to honor the history, center the joy, and celebrate the futures of Black communities. But as February comes to a close, hereβs a reminder that Black history is not contained to just one month a year. π€
π² RSVP here: www.weareplannedparenthoodaction.org/a/columbus-c...
TONIGHT at 6PM join us in Columbus for our first Care Continues Forum, an event for our community to connect with each other, share resources, and pack Community Care Kits. π
No matter the challenges ahead, care continues because our communities continue to show up for one another, no matter what. Here's how you can show up. β¨β€΅οΈ
Testimony from @ppaohio.bsky.social:"House Bill 87 stigmatizes people that seek abortion and would punish people who experience a heartbreaking diagnosis."
Immigrant populations are a critical piece in the fabric of our statewide community. Thank you to the leaders who show up time and time again to speak out and protect our neighbors. β€οΈ
Representative Abdullahi also listed the worst anti-immigrant bills (like HB 42, which we testified against last year), encouraging folks to show up in opposition and keep an eye on Ohioans Against Extremism's legislation tracker.
Shout out to Representatives Munira Abdullahi and Latyna Humphrey for speaking in defense of Ohio's local and statewide immigrant communities and demanding ICE accountability. βΌοΈβ€΅οΈ
PSA: Having multiple abortions is okay. You deserve to have access to the health care you need and want. β€οΈ
New year, same values β¨ We're back and ready to keep fighting for reproductive freedom for all. Are you with us? Tap the link in our bio to find new ways to take action today. π
A dark blue star on a pink and white striped background. White text on top reads βIn a free country, everyone can get an abortion.β
abortion=freedom β¨π¦
Everyone, regardless of ability, should have the right to access reproductive care & make empowered choices about their own bodies & futures. βΏβ¨
Thank you all for showing up to fight for your constituents' right to reproductive freedom, sex education, and health care access in Ohio. π
We'd also like to congratulate Representative Latyna Humphrey on the passing of HB 29 (regarding inmates' access to feminine hygiene products and showers). The bill received unanimous votes in both the House and Senate and now heads to Governor Dewine's desk. π
We are thankful to Representatives Rachel Baker & Desiree Tims for standing up and speaking out against HB 234, and thankful to Representatives Phillip Robinson and Beryl Brown-Piccolantonio for doing the same against HB 485.
Last night, both House Bill 324 (attack on mifepristone, SSRIs, and other medications) and House Bill 485 (sex ed censorship) passed the Ohio House. ‡οΈ
A black background with monarch butterflies. Orange text reads βImmigrant rights are human rights.β
Weβve said it before, and weβll say it again: immigrant rights are human rights.
We turn now to Ohio House Gov't Oversight Committee just in time to find @daniellefirsich.bsky.social for @ppaohio.bsky.social testifying against House Bill 42, which requires Ohio's Medicaid to collect data concerning citizenship and immigration status of patients.
You can take action today by visiting the link below to send a message to the House Education Committee demanding they vote NO on HB 485: www.weareplannedparenthoodaction.org/a/stop-hb-485
HB 485 is censorship disguised as education. Young people will always deserve unbiased, inclusive, and comprehensive sex education free from stigma and shame.
Leo, Storyteller: βOhioans deserve accurate, age-appropriate sex education, not curriculum produced by anti-abortion groups with a political agenda.β
Leo, Storyteller: βTo be clear, the Baby Olivia video mentioned in this bill is not real and not medically accurate, according to medical professionals like the American Council of Gynecologists.β
Kio, Storyteller: βOhio is the only state in the U.S. without state-mandated health education standards for K-12 schoolsβ¦ That's not just lazy policy - it's political indoctrination in education.β
Kio, Storyteller: βAs a mom, I oppose mandating materials from *any* advocacy group, regardless of whether or not I agree with their position β this kind of political maneuvering simply does not belong in public schools.β
Kira, Storyteller: β[This bill] misleads youth, and the lack of quality sex ed will lead to health risks for generations.β
Kira, Storyteller: "In the bill, schools must include a 3 minute ultrasound video, but Meet Baby Olivia is not even an ultrasound β itβs AI.β
