After I finished my PhD, the next big question I wanted to ask is finally answered!

I am very proud to share our new paper on the discovery of #salamander produced antimicrobial peptides and that these peptides influence salamander skin #microbiomes

Origins and functions of microbiome rhythms In their review, Kiessling et al. summarize the features of the microbiota that undergo diurnal rhythms, their development, their impact on the biology of the host, and their relevance to human health and disease.

The microbiome diversifies long- to short-chain fatty acid-derived N-acyl lipids Mass spectrometry data mining tools enabled the creation of an MS/MS spectral library containing hundreds of N-acyl lipids, including conjugates with short-chain fatty acids. This resource enabled the...

If you have ever wondered what might happen to short chain fatty acids made by the microbiome. Here is a large class of metabolites and how they link to biology. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

A female Western Gull was recorded riding 150km in a garbage truck from San Francisco to a compost facility in Central CA, probably to forage. TWICE. An innovator, an icon, a genius.

This is one of my favorite @waterbirdsociety.bsky.social papers I've ever handled as managing editor #ornithology

bluecorridors.org is live!

Watch whales doing their thing as they mooch and migrate throughout the year.

It is an honour to be involved in processing the data for this amazing living initiative. Looking forward to expanding it further!

πŸ“£ Happy to share our review on host-microbiome genomics!

We synthesize the growing field exploring interactions between human genetics and the microbiome, building a roadmap for mapping the dialogue between our genes and microbes

Soil and cherry bacterial communities predict flavor on coffee farms - Scientific Reports Scientific Reports - Soil and cherry bacterial communities predict flavor on coffee farms

New paper #coffee #microbiomes: We discovered bacterial strains in Colombian farms that relate to specialty flavor & that different flavor-associated bacteria differ with farming practices. Bacteria are part of coffee farm biodiversity & may help create coffee flavors www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Come and work with me!

The Nature Micro team is expanding and we're looking for someone to champion microbial ecology, plant micro & related areas for the journal

Knowledge of microbial ecology/plant micro is desirable but we're open to applications from all microbiologists

First post! New paper in Infection & Immunity.

We asked: what do #probiotics do to microbiome & immune system?

They do more to microbiome than immune system, but depended on probiotic & effects fleeting with cocktail impacts different than individual strains.
