I mean you are living through an attempt at inflicting mass starvation on millions of people. This is an ELIMINATIONIST political movement. The sooner folks wake up to this, the better for all of us.

I'd close by saying it's weird, to see this kinda childish, contemptuous behavior from orgs like Bluesky or Tangled who you'd think want to attract users to their sites. But Jay doesn't reallyβ¦seem to want you on this site. She seems to want the queers to go away without her having to make us leave.
The function of the waffles joke is an in-group signifier. Singal, Graber, and Oppiliappan are showing in-group solidarity; they're all in on a joke. The joke is they have institutional power, and you don't, and they feel contempt for you, that you still want to have opinions about how power's used.
So I'd like to show a demonstration of what this "waffles" thing is. Here's a conversation between *this site's* CEO, some random guy, and the cofounder of "Tangled", a GitHub clone built on top of Bluesky's protocol.
Please take a moment to really think, about the shape of this thoughtlessness.
Whenever a writer comes to me with concerns about their work being misinterpreted or approached incorrectly, I remind them that many people are just incredibly stupid, incurious, and dull.
Many people left Twitter because it was cruel to marginalized people, especially trans people. This is transphobia from the CEO of Bluesky. Bluesky is not profitable for anyone. Why would anyone stay here if you're going to take away the one thing Bluesky offers that Twitter does not?
Imagine building an entire platform based on the concept that you're twitter without the bigoted nazis just to turn around and throw a fucking fit because your user base expected you to actually do something about targeted harassment and hate speech
Even from a business POV, you are fucking stupid.
This was such a massive failure at the congressional level. The misguided and widely criticized attempts to ban TikTok only empowered Trump and his conservative media allies in the endβlike many critics of the ban legislation feared it would
This is how deletionism operates
So while there's a dangerous amount of anti-rights organizations and propaganda, information that we all need gets censored over and over again, and so easily

Chris Smalls was profiled by every major media outlet when he lead Amazon victory on Staten Island.
Shocking that not one outlet has covered the IDF detaining him in the Gaza flotilla
Media coverage of Trump-Epstein is about how his base is responding, not about potential crimes he and others committed. With MAGA, most media isn't digging for what's true -- ie the news -- but rather reporting on how a segment of people respond to Trump's actions.
They cut all the queer content from ELIO to appease bigots who, importantly, still didn't go see it, leaving a film that was ultimately not about anything.
And the wrong lesson will be learned.
Zohran Mamdani's shocked American pundits by running on a platform that provided an alternative to Trump, the Democrats catering to him (hello, Newsom), and misogynist Andrew Cuomo. his economics-first campaign stridently protected trans rights as Dems largely refuse to. me on his win @teenvogue.com
1. After the Skrmetti decision, the New York Times has published 6 articles dancing on the graves of trans youth and spreading disinformation on care.
It was cited 7 times in the ruling.

No matter how much money and power we hand over to them at the expense of resourcing our communitiesβhealth care, housing, food, infrastructure, clean air and waterβpolicing cannot and will not ever deliver safety. It is functioning exactly as intended, exactly what it was set up to do.
Police donβt keep us safe. They do not stop or prevent violence.
The cops usually just show up after harm has already been done. And in fact, even by their own metrics of βsolving crimes,β they consistently do a terrible job.
We spent years being manipulated by conservatives with the ear of establishment centrists and liberals into addressing a fake free speech crisis, precisely so people could be punished for speaking out against perhaps the most contemporaneously well-documented genocide in history
If passed, Newsom's budget plan will:
Strip Medi-Cal from every 65+ or disabled person with more than $2000 in assets.
Remove dental and long-term coverage from undocumented Californians.
Impose higher premiums specifically on undocumented people.
Governor Newsom may defend us in speech, but he's voting to kill.
His proposed budget for 2026 targets elderly, disabled, and undocumented Californians, and strips them of access to healthcare.
In terrible breaking news for the people heavily invested in guns, bloodshed, hatred, and the apocalypse, a Muslim leader and Jewish leader are working together for the world they want to live in. if this were a university lawn, such an act would almost certainly be labelled as hate speech.

Or hell, hear me out: if you're so fixated on ideological diversity, go out and get any and all of the following:
--incarcerated people
--homeless people
--the student activists you complain about so much
--Native folks
--trans kids

Substack proudly funds the nazi voices on their platform. Please stop publishing on substack if you have any modicum of concern about the information ecosystem and the economics of hate. I know many people who absolutely do know better who continue to publish there and it is second-hand embarrassing
Absolutely wild how extremely far right rhetoric on Covid/disabled people, that liberals and leftists rightly attacked MAGA for in 2020, has now been mainstreamed to the point that leftists/liberals are further right on public health than most MAGA people were in 2020. Julia outlines it well here
GLAAD on new NYT anti-care podcast: "Instead of addressing the critiques, meeting with the community harmed & fixing its errors...the NYT is deploying its most distrusted and discredited reporters in a new project designed to profit off its inaccurate and biased coverage." @rikiwilchins.bsky.social
if i could snap my fingers and force all journalists everywhere to implement one linguistic tic i think i'd mandate "cars (which kill more than 3,000 people every day)"
I know everyone is loving the Musk schadenfreude but we have to stay on the alert for the possibility that Musk is going to turn his sights to those centrist dem conventions going on and further entrench transphobia and anti-immigrant sentiment.
And they would easily work with him.
This should be the final nail in the coffin of popularism (status-quo-ism).
The status quo data people say Dem leaders should make strategy based on what polls well. But thatβs false: this is evidence the polls can be shifted by Dem strategy.
