The more these tech companies try to force AI into our lives the more I’m motivated to stay away from them. I would rather switch to using pen and paper than use any of the AI integrations in any of the softwares or websites I need for my work.

Ugh. 😫 so painful. A lot of fear/anguish in the scientific community. Trump & DOGE will be responsible for the death of scientific discovery in the US for generations. Discoveries will still happen. But more slowly & elsewhere. They’ll come too late for some people with life-threatening illnesses
I’m not surprised. They basically chose a leader who wears a tin foil hat as his crown. Also he’s not exactly someone you’d expect to care about the well being of people let alone women.
This is figure 1, which shows weighted means for trust in scientists across countries and regions (1 = very low, 3 = neither high nor low, 5 = very high).
ICYMI: What is the state of trust in scientists around the world? A study in Nature Human Behaviour reports on a survey of 71,922 respondents in 68 countries and finds that trust in scientists is moderately high. https://go.nature.com/3PLgKKU 🧪
Winnipeg, 7pm on a Saturday night driving down a busy street (Osborne). Feels like -22 C outside. Someone’s car breaks down half way into the intersection. Within a minute four different cars stop and four people run out to help push it out of the way and to safety. That’s what Canadian values are.

How much do people around the world trust scientists?
"Most people have a relatively high trust in scientists. People want scientists to take an active role in society and policymaking."

Going to work took some extra motivation today!😅 Thankfully my bus was “only 20 minutes late”.🙃
This is figure 5, which shows the discovery of pantothenate as the key metabolite of B. vulgatus via untargeted and targeted metabolomics.
A paper in Nature Microbiology reports on a gut bacterium that may be associated with reduced dietary sugar intake. The findings could aid the development of therapies to manage obesity and metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. https://go.nature.com/3CiERgB 🧪

Reminds me of the pain my ex-PI and I went through trying to create mutants of this species during grad school. I was working with an XDR strain that resisted all clinical antibiotics except colistin. I was crying because of the stress. My PI was crying because of the amount of Zeocin I had to use 😅

A very insightful paper I came across earlier today! I highly recommend reading this.
Decided to switch to this platform from twitter (or X or whatever you prefer calling it) alongside my fellow scientific community. I hope @bsky.app is able to provide us with a better experience.
