July 1921, Dr. Frederick Banting makes a breakthrough discovery on treating diabetes by injecting insulin. This paved the way for the production of synthetic insulin. Without that breakthrough, Diabetics would not be where they are today.

A four-panel illustration showing that diabetes can affect people at any stage of life.
Top left: A child stands with one foot on a football while checking their blood glucose with a small device.
Top right: A pregnant woman sits comfortably on a sofa and checks her blood sugar while another woman looks on supportively.
Bottom left: A middle-aged construction worker wearing a hard hat and safety vest checks his glucose monitor while speaking with a colleague.
Bottom right: An older woman in a wheelchair reads a book with a smiling young girl beside her, who is holding a cat. The panels are labelled: β€œDiabetes can… affect people… at any stage… of life.”

Back to school? At BAS, that's Back to Pre-Deployment Training πŸ’ͺ

Here's the lovely crowd who'll be working at our Antarctic and sub-Antarctic Research Stations over the next summer and winter seasons.

They're all at BAS HQ learning about everything from biosecurity to first aid. Say hello! πŸ‘‹

This image has a bright blue background and features 18 cartoon-style penguins, each representing a different species. The penguins are arranged in three rows, with their names written underneath in black text. The species shown are Adelie, African, Chinstrap, Emperor, Erect-Crested, Fiordland, Galapagos, Gentoo, Humboldt, King, Little Blue, Macaroni, Magellanic, Rockhopper, Royal, Snares, and Yellow-Eyed. Each penguin has distinct features such as different colors, patterns, and head crests. The Emperor penguin is the tallest, while the Little Blue penguin is the smallest. The text at the bottom in bold black letters reads β€œKNOW YOUR PENGUINS,” followed by β€œHappy Penguin Awareness Day - January 20th” in a smaller font. There is also a small pink narwhal illustration in the bottom right corner.

It’s the ciiircle of life 🎢🐧

This #PenguinAwarenessDay say hello to these fresh new gentoo penguin chicks.

Hatched in the Square Pond Colony near Bird Island Research Station, these penguins live on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. What a loud start to life!

Next, in a feat of perspective (and probably Photoshop), here is the appropriately bird-centric greetings card from the team at Bird Island Research Station πŸͺΆ

Bird Island is one of the smaller islands just off South Georgia, a sub-Antarctic Island which is a haven for birds and seals 🦭
