It's the national year of reading in the uk in 2026. Instead of asking "why don't kids read any more", ask "how can I help them find the stories (and non fic) they will fall in love with". Less "get off my lawn whippersnappers" and more "come, sit on the lawn, here's a comic".

In this Year of Reading, a gentle reminder:
The best way to get your kids reading is to let them see *you* reading. The way to *stop* your kids reading is to criticize their choices, or to make reading a competition, or a punishment, or a race, or a learning tool. Let it be fun. Let them read.

β€˜We were missing in the conversation’: how Zack Polanski hit on plan to beat Reform at their own game This time last year Polanski was barely known outside the party. Now he’s hoping for success at May’s local elections – by taking a page from Nigel Farage’s playbook

We're challenging this terrible Labour Government.

And we're ready to take on Reform.

I spoke with the Guardian:

Unbelievable. Donald Trump has been invited to a state visit to the UK. We should not be rolling out the red carpet to celebrate this man. Agree? Add your name to the petition today: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/no...

Been in a reading funk…this however broke that.

β€œThe First Year” by #MattGoodfellow is every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be. It truly captures the anxieties and challenges of going to secondary and feels entirely true. Nate and his β€œsquare” are fantastic. We all need someone to know us!

8 years ago we stopped writing comments in pupils' books and moved to whole class feedback. Teacher workload and pupil outcomes improved dramatically as a result. We have never looked back.

Very pleased to see our case study in @katejonesteach.bsky.social excellent new book.
