Genuinely, it should be standard practice that if you can't get the "game key" box to the customer on release day, you send a copy of the information via email

Christian Scientists (ironically) are the only group I know of who fully reject medicine, tho they formally claim otherwise. I have friends from hs who were CS and it was 100% expected that for them to not be ostracized from their church, they could not take any kind of medication

Liking the movie or thinking it's a good movie sans source context is one thing

Saying it works as an adaptation of Wuthering Heights is another, and I simply cannot respect someone who believes that

The one clip I saw came across like bad fanfiction, and with all the changes that feeling is stronger than ever; this is a bad fix-it fic and I want fuck-all to do with anyone who thinks it is a good adaptation

She could have left Wuthering Heights out of it entirely, and tbh having now heard the actual plot points of the movie I don't get why she didn't go this route. Bad enough to soften Cathy and Heathcliff so they're likeable; why change almost every single event and still call it the same?

What I can't get over is that Fennel had so many better options and chose none of them. She could have done something different from other adaptations (adding her trademark sex bullshit doesn't count). Just including the second half of the book would have set her apart, ffs

Adaptations don't need to be super faithful to the source material to be good; look at Howl's Moving Castle. The movie is very different from the novel, but the themes are retained. Hence why the majority of book-first fans tend to still love the movie

And if one wants to throw out the themes, what, pray tell, is the point of doing an adaptation?

The ppl saying "Heathcliff could have been white by our definition but not the 1800s one" are correct, after all. The obvious rebuttal is that the movie was made TODAY and did NOT aim for historical accuracy. You cannot have an able bodied cishet white man as Heathcliff and retain the book's themes
