Yup. Finished undergrad in 2003 and had to leave Michigan because the recession hit extra hard here. Things started getting better, i went to grad school, and another, bigger crisis hit. Thankfully the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded my first post-grad-school job in 2010.
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
I had to stuff napkins in my ears last time i went to a movie with my kids. I figured I had just turned βhas to bring earplugs to the movie theaterβ years old.

Next time someone asks you about energy and land use, maybe remind them that the ~35 million acres that currently grow corn for ethanol in the US could produce ~15 PWh per year of electricity from solar photovoltaics. That's ~3.5 times more than *total annual generation from all US power plants*.
If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

Never run a gas generator indoors, donβt use a gas oven or stove to try to heat your house, and make sure you have working, battery-backed up carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of your house (but especially the one where you sleep)!

Terrifying that he felt the need to.
Iβm using them same checks i ordered 15 years agoβ¦ the last check I wrote was in 2021.
Larger point: 45Q is arguably the most perverse energy subsidy from a climate pespective. Govt paying corporations to capture and store CO2, instead of actually reducing emissions, means incentivizing more extraction and combustion of fossil fuels because more emissions means more public $.
Michiganders, both of our senators voted for the trans athlete ban this week. Please please please call them and tell them they have to vote against the ban on gender affirming care for minors that just passed the house. This bill will kill children.

I wish I could buy literally any small car. I live in Michigan and come from a Ford family so Iβve always bought from the UAW list, but none of the big three make normal-sized cars anymore π

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My family purchases a can of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce every year, opens it, sets it on a plate in all its can-shaped glory, and leaves it there as a conversation piece, looking closely to see if you can see the expiration date stamped on the bottom
Ooh whatβs the book?
Pro tip: it usually only takes one or two requests for your local library to buy a copy of a book you like
Post from the White House reading: THE TIME HAS COME TO DISMANTLE THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. Accompanied by a screenshot of a Bloomberg article headline reading: Trump Takes Major Step Toward Dismantling Education Department
We cannot and we will not let Trumpβs anti-student, anti-family, anti-educator agenda win.
My coworkers make fun of me for hating on trucks but this pretty much sums up my feelings
I have 2 friends who are moving with their young children to Amsterdam and Dusseldorf. They happen to be the friends with the most advanced tech skills/careersβthe exact people this country claims to want to keep.
I absolutely do this.
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didnβt hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.
You love to see it #transitwins
Wait, Georgia **elects** their public service commissioners?!
For the rest of the world, the single case of Mike Johnson refusing to swear in Adelita Grijalva after her special election win, because Johnson knows her vote will tip the scales for the release of the Epstein files, is enough evidence by itself that the U.S. political system is broken and lawless.
