Donald Trump’s war with Iran is costing nearly $1 billion a day. That taxpayer money, along with the billions of dollars that went to ICE, should be redirected to health care, education, housing, and economic development.

I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution and my constituents have told me overwhelmingly that they do not want the United States engaged in another war. I will support the War Powers Resolution, H. Con. Res. 38, to make clear that only Congress has the power to declare war.

And now the war is spreading across an already fragile Middle East, with enormous loss of life, unknown consequences, and no end plan in sight. And the administration has refused to answer questions about how much this will cost in lives and dollars.

The murderous Iranian regime caused tremendous harm to the people of Iran for decades, including the recent murder of protesters. But the solution is not to start a war. Trump and his administration have offered conflicting reasons for this war, but none constitute an imminent threat to our nation.

I grew up with a poster in our home that said, “War is not healthy for children and other living things.” This is a value I hold as a policymaker.

For years, I have supported negotiations with our allies to engage in diplomatic solutions to counter threats from Iran. 🧵

I was glad to attend Blanchet House's annual Lend a Helping Hand Brunch to celebrate the dignity of all Oregonians and continue the work for a better future. Thank you Blanchet House for all you do!

It was wonderful to spend time with advocates and community at the Gala de Cultura - a gathering of solidarity and support. Centro does essential work in Washington County to build community and provide a variety of support with housing, wellness, economic development, and more.
