Honestly, far more dignified than "pet" or "mascota." I suspect our Polly would much prefer to be addressed as "my dear esteemed animal."
Antonio Gámez Cuéllar, the trumpet soloist for this performance of McAllen High School's Mariachi Oro, was detained February 25 by ICE, along with his brothers and parents. They are now in detention and facing deportation. 1/9 youtu.be/mQjxfP8apGw?...

According to the _New York Times_ piece, it is his mother, Emma Guadalupe, who has colon cancer.
I hope you are able to enjoy it properly. Once you have the backstory, the culminating scenes at the Globe Theatre completely transcend the dialogue, in my opinion.
After I reported it, they replied that they had received multiple reports and were working to address it. I just checked and the captions and subtitles are now working properly for me.
Few types of music can express such a mixture of beauty, heartbreak, joy, love and pride quite like mariachi. May this performance by Mariachi Oro remind us what's at stake right now as we hold la familia Gámez Cuéllar in the light. 9/9

"Quisiera sentirte / Hablarte y amarte / Y nunca en la vida / Dejarte partir." (I wish only to feel you, to talk with you and love you, and never in life to let you leave.) 7/9
"No importa que digan / Que lloro tu ausencia / Que digan que llevo / Clavado un dolor." (I don't care if they say I cry for your absence, or that they say I'm pierced by the pain.) 6/9
"Que yo sin tu amor / No puedo vivir / Por eso te pido / Que vuelvas a mí." (Without your love I cannot live, which is why I ask you to return to me.) 5/9
"Hoy que te has ido / Tan lejos de mí / Comprendo lo mucho / Que sufro por ti." (Now that you've gone so far from me, I understand how much my heart aches for you.) 4/9
This video of Mariachi Oro's performance of "Sufro tu ausencia (I suffer your absence)" was recorded four days before the family was detained. It was recorded at the UIL State Mariachi Festival, where Mariachi Oro was awarded Outstanding Performer. The lyrics are particularly poignant now. 3/9
Antonio has now been sent to a separate facility from his family, including his mother, who is battling cancer. The family came to the US in 2023 fleeing cartel violence in San Luis Potosí state. 2/9

Must be some kind of glitch on Peacock's side. It offers me the option to turn on either English or Spanish, but neither option adds anything. I reported to Peacock support.
Over half of albemarle county was liberated from slavery that day as the Union line reached them, including hundreds of people held in captivity by the university's professors, students, and the school itself.
Today is Liberation and Freedom Day In Charlottesville!
March 3, 1865, is when word of liberation from slavery reached the area.
A reminder below that much of what we experience as Cville/UVA culture was built by enslaved individuals & families.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
#Alt4you 2/2 The Constitution is clear: only Congress can declare war. The Senate must come back in session immediately to vote up or down on a War Powers Resolution.
#Alt4you 1/2 Elizabeth Warren @SenWarren
Donald Trump's single-handedly starting another war with Iran is dangerous and illegal. 'America first' doesn't mean dragging the United States into another forever war built on lies while ignoring the needs of Americans here at home.
#Alt4you 8/8 Congress must be fully briefed, and the administration must come forward with a clear legal justification, a defined end state, and a plan that avoids dragging the United States into yet another costly and unnecessary war.
#Alt4you 7/8 The Constitution is clear: the decision to take this nation to war rests with Congress, and launching large-scale military operations particularly in the absence of an imminent threat to the United States raises serious legal and constitutional concerns.
#Alt4you 6/8 By the president's own words, American heroes may be lost. That alone should have demanded the highest level of scrutiny, deliberation, and accountability, yet the president moved forward without seeking congressional authorization.
#Alt4you 5/8 We owe it to our service members, and to every American family, to ensure that we are not repeating the mistakes of the past. The president owes the country clear answers: What is the objective? What is the strategy to prevent escalation? And how does this make Americans safer?
#Alt4you 4/8 The American people have seen this playbook before - claims of urgency, misrepresented intelligence, and military action that pulls the United States into regime change and
prolonged, costly nation-building.
#Alt4you 3/8 and brutally repressed its own people. But acknowledging those realities does not relieve any president of the responsibility to act within the law, with a clear strategy, and with Congress.
#Alt4you 2/8 ...marking a deeply consequential decision that risks pulling the United States into another broad conflict in the Middle East. Iran's leadership has long supported terrorism across the region, undermined regional stability, continued to advance its nuclear ambitions,...
