Back to normality after four days of monastic life.

It was truly impressive to be immersed in the silence of Cistercian Monks of the Strict Observance.

On my way to four days of Abbey life. We will join the Cistercian monks at Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Orval for rest, contemplation and the enjoyment of cheese and one of the best beers there is.

There are quite a few more good reasons than just the Matthew effect for this.

The fact that this is even news shows exactly how badly people understand the use of LLMs.

250 - 300 hours of work, is supposedly enough to get to an A1 level in a language you have zero familiarity with at start (10EC in university course work). Does that sound like a reasonable expectation?

Repotted into a bonsai training pot with proper soil and some cute roots visible.

View from the other side. I'm afraid half of the tree needs to go. I need some new tools for that...

Dug out the roots of a cheap supermarket Christmas tree, not expecting much. Pleasantly surprised to find a well developed root system and some potential for pretty surface roots in a #bonsai.
I hope I didn't kill it by taking too much of the roots out. Pruning and wiring soon to come. #prebonsai

OpenAI steps into the void created by Anthropic. Their AI will be used for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons for the US government.
Boycott them now.

Paying for preventative measures to make up for the elevated deductible is ridiculous. Prevention works on much longer timescales and the care you prevent or postpone is mostly first line care (at least at first), which is exempted from deductibles.

I would love to transition to using more Europe based AI, like Le Chat by Mistral, but in a few days of shadow using, it just performs worse. It hallucinates so much more than Gemini, Copilot and ChatGPT...

Personal pet peeve: people who put half their cv in their email footers. Especially popular among people at very high positions, who most certainly don't really need to show off.

Footers are for contact info, not for bragging.

Just shouting this, even if SB himself knows they won't, will keep some people at home during the election. That's a plus for him. It's using fear as a political means. Disgusting.

Bye-bye, B.A. – An obituary for aΒ brewpub Their bar stools worked their magic. Their interior design made them unique, and very attractive to a wide range of audiences. I was only actively part of two of their thirty years in existence, but they have been a small part of my identity for half of their life. On February 2, 2026, unexpectedly, The Brewer's Art in Baltimore decided to permanently close their doors.

Thanks, Brewer's Art. We had a blast!

I wrote a piece regarding their closure.

The Brewer’s Art, a Mount Vernon mainstay, abruptly closes after 30 years Owner Volker Stewart informed employees by text message Monday that he was closing effective immediately due to financial problems, according to screenshots shared with The Banner.

This is just pure sadness. www.thebanner.com/culture/food...

Interesting how all people who appear in the E files have a statement, as soon as their names leak. No one seems to have the balls to give the statement before their names surface. Would look a bit stronger, but that tiny chance that you stay out of the spotlight....

A somewhat rusty and not very well grounded one, but sure. I always have opinions (I know that's not necessarily a good thing).
