Public worried about creeping health privatisation, lack of preventative care Two doctors travelled the length of the North Island to see how people felt about the state of the health system.

"Heard many positive stories abt community orgs, iwi health providers especially, working creatively & cobbling together funding from various sources 'to fill in the gaps the broken healthcare system has left'... that might be the best healthcare system we could devise" www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

I was grateful to be to stand on the lawn outside parliament today in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and hear from the Hīkoi for Health folk.
Great work all! I look forward to more dissemination and keep the poems coming.

“Band-Aid Day” wasn’t just a symbol - it was a stand

We joined the Hīkoi 4 Health to echo the People’s Inquiry:
Our communities are filling the gaps of a broken, privatised system

Healthcare is a human right. Honour it. Fund it.
The bandaids are off. The demand for change is on

Wear a bandage or plaster in a prominent place as a symbol of the government's failing approach to fixing our healthcare system. And when someone asks "What happened?", tell them about our hīkoi, the need for reform and that they can submit their concerns and ideas at healthreformnz.org!"

Snippet from Glenn Colquhoun's column in The Listener 19 to 25 April

Have just read the column by Glenn Colquhoun in The Listener. This bit in particular resonated so much: "... so much of it seems to be held together by sticking plasters placed on sticking plasters placed on sticking plasters".

"The voices they have heard reveal the need for urgent systemic change, but also highlight how communities are filling the void left by a failing and increasingly privatized health system. It is clear that collective experiences and ideas are vital in shaping a better future. They invite everyone to join us on May 8th at Parliament grounds to hear a summary of the findings from their "People’s Inquiry." They hope to amplify these voices and press for the comprehensive healthcare reform they believe our country desperately needs. They also remind supporters that they have declared May 8th "Band-Aid Day" where those who want to protest government inaction and support the call for reform should wear a bandage or plaster(s) in a prominent place as a symbol of the approach of successive governments to the failures of our health care system."

"Hīkoi for Health Reaches Final Leg – Heading to Parliament for May 8th Arrival. As the Hīkoi for Health approaches its conclusion, doctors Art Nahill and Glenn Colquhoun are proud to announce that their "vanbulance" journey is in its final days. From New Plymouth, they will be travelling south to Wellington, arriving at Parliament grounds on May 8th, where they will hold a gathering to share the stories and ideas for healthcare reform collected along the way. Throughout the campaign, they have been overwhelmed by the incredible support from communities across the North Island who have provided food, petrol vouchers, and accommodation. They have received hundreds of submissions through their website, healthreformnz.org, and spoken with more individuals who have shared their stories of pain, frustration, and hope for the future of healthcare in Aotearoa."
