One of the questions I get asked a lot at events is “how much research did you have to do” and usually the answer is that I didn’t have to do a lot of book-specific research - because I’m interested in history and read about it/watch documentaries/visit historical sites regularly anyway

This is an incredible book. So good I had to keep reading even unwell. The aliens are extremely alien but also relatable, and the humans feel like a warning. Tchaikovsky at his best

God Almighty, things are awful aren't they? If you can write some words, make some art, play some music, or create anything that makes you and anyone else feel even a tiny bit better for even a second then you should pour some energy into that.

Morning Womble! I hope you’re well. Today I’m reading the excellent Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky. So good.
My body is informing me that I did too much today. That consists of:
- a load of washing
- cleaning the kitchen
- cleaning the bathroom
- hoovering and mopping
- taking the kids to the country park
- hanging up the washing
This is normal stuff that a normal adult should be able to do without agony
At the park with the kids. 12yo says to 9yo “Don’t be silly, I’m not about to run in this economy” 😂
