A new @ips-dc.org analysis rates the billionaire Giving Pledge that debuted in 2010 as βunfulfilled, unfulfillable, and not our ticket to a fairer, better future.β

15 years ago this week, 40 of America's richest signed the Giving Pledge.
Whether the Giving Pledge has been a success depends on whom you ask. What is clear is that the Pledge has lost steam even as the rich have gotten richer.

Bill Gates has pledged to donate $200 billion over the next 20 yrs.
Gates called out Elon Musk for his role in foreign aid cuts, which he said cannot be covered by donors.
Will Musk fulfill the Giving Pledge? Gates is uncertain, but so far Musk is nowhere near close.

What many taxpayers may not understand is that the "easy" questions (did you file? did you include all your forms?) can be answered by computers.
The "hard" questions (did you hide income via a maze of offshore companies?) are those that IRS will struggle with following cuts.

Tariffs still in place:
β125% on Chinese imports
β25% on steel, aluminum and auto imports
β10% on nearly all other imports
Tariffs coming:
βOn copper, lumber, semiconductor and pharma imports
βAnd maybe on other countries, depending on how the next 90 days go

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA):
"I'm writing to the White House to demand who knew in advance that the President was going to, once again, flip flop on tariffs. And are people cashing in? There is just all too much opportunity for people in the White House and the administration to be insider trading"
Effective immediately, the government says it will begin screening immigrant social media for activity that officials think indicates support for antisemitism.
Biggest mistakes I'm seeing in early reporting (thread):
1. Tariffmageddon isn't over: Lotsa tariffs to account for, but the average tariff rate is only down around one quarter. So most of the pain of Liberation Day is still with us.

BESSENT: No
For the record, trillions were lost, panic gripped Wall Street., Main Street and the globe and all we got were phone calls. And weβre left with high tariffs that are still forecast to reduce growth and boost inflation. Doesnβt seem much like victory to me.
My latest: pharmaceuticals were exempt from the tariffs Trump announced last week, but all indications suggest they won't be exempt for long. The most likely outcome? Higher drug prices and less innovation.
