It was deemed necessary to remove an old Oak tree to make room for a temporary pedestrian bridge whilst repairs of the existing bridge took place.

Yorkshire Moths Review 2025
Yorkshire Moths Review 2025 YouTube video by Butterfly Conservation Yorkshire

The recording of Charlie Fletcher's review of the 2025 Moth year is now available. Its been another very busy moth year with record number of moths a lots of new earliest and latest recorded dates let alone record abundance for hundreds of species... Phew! youtu.be/-s8RWBO-_nI

Hooray! After months of disruption the Black-headed Gulls have returned to the riverside parks in Otley.
Now we just need some grass and a new 200 year old Oak tree.

Roundhay Park in Leeds today. Lots of twitchers photographing the young Iceland Gull but many will have failed to notice Black-headed Gull 236J who frequents St Petersburg, Russia ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ

Iceland gull (Larus glaucoides) doesnโ€™t actually breed in Iceland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ but originates from Greenland ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฑ or Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Great report of a Tufted Duck from @theroyalparks.bsky.social. This little duck, ringed at #Serpentine #Hydepark in Dec 2023 made it all the way to the Rusian arctic circle, ca 2000km NE of Moscow. This shows just how far ducks wintering in London can migrate. #Londonbirds #birdringing #duck #BTO

I wonder if it is because they are a bit heavier.
The more nimble BHGs outcompete them when it comes to grabbing chips in an urban car park!

Todayโ€™s observation in rainy Wharfedale: The Common Gulls are much more proficient at catching worms than their Black-headed Gull cousins.
Both perform the little foot-stomping dance but canus easily outperforms ridibundus with a much greater number of gullible worms brought to the surface ๐Ÿ†
