It may do, but I don’t think that is the main issue. @sciencebusiness.net has concocted a nice story from three disgruntled people with a range of unsupported allegations, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Some excellent research projects funded by the European Research Exécutive Agency (REA) in this publication. 🧪

Research into biodiversity creates great scientific knowledge, but we also want it support better policy making. That’s what we’re discussing today at the #REA HQ. So important for our planet. @ufz.de @scienceinnovation.ec.europa.eu
The MSCA alumni association will of course oppose it, but a more strategic approach is essential in my opinion.

I love this. Japan doesn’t have to join #HorizonEurope, it wants to join because it is a good and well run research programme. I’m proud to be involved with implementing it.
Has it worked well with every President ? I think not. Maybe a wider variety of voices at the top would be useful ??
Not really. The proposal for Four vice-presidents for 4-8 years, one of which would become the President for two years, rather strengthens the presidency, and prevents it from a single overbearing figure that we have seen in the past
@colombewarin.bsky.social very true, review meetings are a crucial interaction between the research projects that we fund and our project officers. We do have standard guidance for them but nothing can replace the talent and enthusiasm of our staff
No it will not. The single rule book (the financial regulation) would not prevent any of the ideas presented in the article.
Great to be at these #RIdaysEU, having some fun with my colleague @minnawilkki.bsky.social and supporting some of the projects that we fund at the European Research Executive Agency. 🧪
Makes sense
Korea joins the EUs Research Programme, Horizon Europe. That’s quite exciting!! It’s becoming a world wide programme, with Korea, Canada and New Zealand in and others discussing accession. 🧪

A complex title, but simply this is a meeting of research projects funded by REA to bridge the gap between research and practice in agriculture and land management. Our research has provided solutions to increase sustainability in agriculture, but they need to be taken up and applied. 🧪
Very happy to host this event at the Research Executive Agency. Many of the great research projects that we fund feeding back their results to policy makers. Adding value to the research of each individual project, great to see. 🧪
🧪 very happy to be in the Drôme region of France today to meet the Gov4all research project, funded by the REA, and to see soil #livinglabs at work. Exciting practical work with farmers and land managers to improve soil health.
Earth Observation is vital. With programs like Copernicus and EuroGEO, and its investment in research, the EU plays a key role in global #EarthMonitoring 🛰️ 🌍
EU-funded projects have a solid representation at the GEO Global Forum 2025. 🧪

🧪 the research community wants simplification, then opposes every one that the European Commission proposes! #genderequality remains a key component of the European Research Area, but reporting on it and assessing it for every research project is an excessive burden and needs to change.
🧪 people want simplification in principle, just not « that » one. There is a confusion here - gender equality remains a fundamental principle of the European Research Area, but that doesn’t mean it need to be explained, assessed and reported on for every single research project, that’s unnecessary
« Address the imbalance while keeping the accounting system as simple as possible » can’t be done. A single flat rate of indirect costs was the biggest simplification ever made, please tell me we are not going back on that!!
Nature based solutions, effective and cost-effective in mitigating climate change, there is plenty of evidence that they work, many of the research projects that we fund at #REA are ready to be deployed now.
But « R&I ministers want a large standalone programme » is not really news, of course they do, but they don’t hold the purse strings. It is other Ministers that bed to be convinced.

🧪Really happy to be at this event today on marine biodiversity, 30 research projects funded by REA coming together to discuss their work and feed back their evidence to policy makers. Thanks to my colleagues who have organised the event together with BioAgora Project.
🧪the link below should take you to a simple guide to the EUs nature restoration law. Under the NRL Member States should take concrete actions to restore nature and biodiversity. Let’s hope they use the solid scientific base that #REA research projects can provide.
We have now tried multiple methods to calculate personnel costs, none of them have been fully satisfactory, none of them led to real simplification, none of them avoided errors, that’s why we have gone for lump sum funding, which avoids the problem completely.
🧪looking forward to this event tomorrow and Friday, a whole range of research projects financed by @horizoneu.bsky.social and policy makers discussing how to restore #marinebiodiversity
🧪looking forward to today’s event. Research projects funded by #REA #HorizonEurope have ready-to-use Nature Based Solutions available to improve European habitats, today we are considering how to convince local and national authorities to adopt them. A great challenge, a great opportunity.
🧪 please have a look if you do research in these areas!
