Big agree. Failure and iteration are the best teachers. You learn nothing by committing to a massive project right away, because you won't fail for years and you won't see it coming from lack of experience. People who insist they can make their masterpiecr first are either experts or deluded.

Either give yourself a time or design constraint in the style of a games jam, or just play a bunch of games until something sparks!
I have to do more bugfixing and UX tonight. At work, fixing bugs is great because it's like a little treasure hunt. It feels different when you're flipping through your own code and designs and thinking "why the heck did I set it up this way."
Can't wait for the next refactoring.
