I raised my eyebrow at Marathon's small maps, lack of safe pockets, and restrictive quests before release. Turns out there's a point to it all. www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/ma...

i keep asking the same thing
the cloak is a livesaver. watching this back i'm pretty sure he ran right past me *invisibly* and i just missed it
Hat tip to this Assassin who ninja smoke bombed me and legitimately *disappeared*. Poof, gone. I wasted another 2 minutes looking around after this, but we no longer shared a plane.
No waaaaaaaay I haven't seen this lol
I mean it's not a *bad* sign for Marathon that multiple journos visiting SF for GDC have to get their fix in.
count me in
Marathon has a charged energy pistol that melts shields. It has a lock-on SMG. It has a burst-fire battle rifle with a hipfire upgrade. It has a pistol called the "CE."
Close enough, welcome back Halo?

wow, that intro video must have truly blasted your synapses
That's a design choice I'd bet dollars came directly from Hunt Showdown (though in that game you can burn bodies to assert pressure on revives)
both are pretty terrible outcomes!
Possible that's what's happening here, i also wonder if this is post-release downsizing that was going to happen no matter what.
Barely cleared the roll, avoided becoming The Worst
Esoteric Ebb
Really love the Marathon shell that's just "Halo 5 Master Chief with shoulder missiles"
baseball sick
Counting down the minutes to 5pm, the hour it becomes acceptable to purchase a large carne asada burrito
maps you can hear
"Excuse me guys, can i just scooch on in there"
Nice. I've been running Rook just to learn how the dang map works lol. Still not sure what keycards are needing for what, but I took an elevator to the pinwheel, that was cool.
Rook run on Outpost. Narrowly avoided this squad, looted their scraps, got out safe. Cool game.
I respect the variety of reasons multiplayer shooters give folks the ick. It's also plain to see there's a lack of voices who play them a lot around these parts. It was weirdly difficult to find impressions pieces about Marathon last week!
Multiplayer shooters are the most popular genre in the world, but in gaming enthusiast circles it's funny how often ppl dismiss them like alien entertainment. Can you imagine anyone ever getting this weird about RPGs where you slay 700 goblins lol
Currently weighing the viability of watching Aus vs Japan at 3am tomorrow lol
I have really missed Bungie environments
I reckon the aviation maxim "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing" applies well to extraction shooters
Funny that Perimeter is Marathon's "beginner" map, because Hauler has to be bloodiest battleground in the game so far. Cramped, dark, and stuffed with secret routes in and out.
In any other battle royale-sized game it'd be the standout location. What a place.
