It has nothing to do with mare being the technical name for a female horse btw. It's very much a fandom thing.

Mare culture is referring to the people who almost always call the fem ponies of MLP "mares". It seems to be innocent, but a lot of these people that overuse and even chant "mare" also tend to sexualize the fem pony characters and publicly display generally uncomfortable tendencies.
Anon is referring to 4channers, but specifically the green pony lots of these people use as pfps, have plushies of, etc. and it's been a thing where if someone in the fandom is a Nazi or oversexualizes the ponies, they tend to have something of that character somewhere on their profile or even irl.
Marefair is an 18+ MLP convention in Florida that is ran by horrible people, one being a convicted zoophile (here's some proof dogpatch.press/2025/10/23/m... ) and it crawls with Nazis and zoophilia apologists and there's been multiple instances of promotion of hate and other problematic behavior.
