An old tweet from 2022: Another Argento Soma/Hunter x Hunter 1999 tape. The toilet water valve in my RV broke and spewed water everywhere while I was ripping this so that was fun.

These tapes were digisubs awkwardly transferred to VHS so they were kinda hard to watch anyway but I'll never forget when the toilet in the RV I was living in at the time exploded while I was ripping them lol

FYI, VIz hit my Internet Archive account with a copyright complaint related to 2 fansub VHS tapes I uploaded in 2022 containing a few episodes of Argento Soma and the 1999 Hunter X Hunter OVAs. Probably a nothingburger but if either of those are getting new releases you heard it here first I guess

I don't even know if they realize how big of a deal their work is but it helps to have that context in mind whenever they make baffling decisions. Also they should probably have a worldwide comms and/or legal team at this point.

Anyway, all this to say, even though khara is the guardian of one of the biggest franchises on the planet they're still kinda running their ship like a high-tech modern version of Dischord House and I don't even think it's a bad thing, it's just something to keep in mind when stuff like this happens

I think we see less of it because khara's a smaller, less open operation than Gainax ever was but sometimes we've seen some silly things slip through (remember when Anno partnered with CLEOPATRA RECORDS of all companies for the Shin Ultraman bluray? Unfortunately an on-brand move for old DIY guys)

And hey, that can be fine! In an ideal world they shouldn't have to, and there's tons of examples of creatives maintaining their DIY ideals and workflow as they get huge while doing a good job of balancing that with good business acumen.

There are no Steve Albinis amongst the Gainax alumni.

The recurring thing I keep noticing during all my Gainax research is they kept trying to keep their company operations as DIY as possible even when they finally starting blowing up and it constantly fucked them over big time because none of those people learned how to do a business.

I had the idea a few years ago to take one of the Saturn FMV adventure games (probably Lunacy or D) and insert Craig Stadler pop-ups and commentary into them but I never had time to set up the toolset for extracting and re-encoding the video, I hope someone reads this and steals my idea
