There's lots of interesting parts to being the programme leader for BA Media at Edge Hill University. One bit I particularly enjoy is the design and development of the degree through new modules. So, I'm really excited to be bringing Video Game Studies back to the department in 2026.
Really excited to get the final manuscript for my next article at the end of last week. Exploring playlisting and authenticity in rock and pop music on Spotify, my latest research at Edge Hill University will be published in Rock Music Studies with Taylor & Francis in late 2025 / early 2026.
It’s the end of week two and the first Autumn open day, so there’s a lovely buzz in our building on the Edge Hill University campus today (even if the weather isn’t as great!).

With huge support from the English and Creative Arts’s tech team and volunteer students, we’ve just finished my second year “Playing Live” module at Edge Hill University where students put on a number of performances of both originals and covers, culminating in a live performance in our tv studio.
Second last set of practical assignments on the BA Music Production course this academic year at Edge Hill University today. Arranging Popular Music sees second year students rearrange two songs each, with external brass popping in to sight read and play their work on the day.

My contributor copy of the new Oxford Handbook of Video Game Music and Sound just arrived. Edited by William Gibbons and Mark Grimshaw-Aagaard, the book contains a brilliant spectrum of research. This is my second Edge Hill University publication so far this year.

It was really exciting to see some of the archive's wonderful materials on show.
