Those at the political extremes are more likely than moderates to participate in collective action, even when the movement does not align with their ideological values.

These findings suggest that understanding activism requires looking beyond ideology alone—we also need to consider how extreme those views are.

In a protest advocating right-wing values (against COVID-19 restrictions) & one advocating lef-wing values (against pension reform), we found that both ideological alignment and extremism were related to greater collective action intentions and participation.
