Dissecting the contribution of transposable elements to interphase chromosome structure - Genome Biology Background Transposable elements (TEs) occupy nearly half of the human genome and play diverse biological roles. Despite their abundance, the extent to which TEs contribute to three-dimensional (3D) g...

Unfortunately my regular local coffee shop is closed on Mondays. Next time I'll skip the coffee if I can't go there! 😁

I said yeah that's what a decaf is with decaf beans made like a normal drink. He said "yeah we used to have decaf but for some reason they took it away."

For the record, this manager is the person the other girl asked if they had decaf beans. He acted like he didn't know what decaf was either.

24.11.2025 22:27 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I forced myself to complain with the idea that if she did that to someone who absolutely needed decaf they could be in trouble. So she gets the manager and he offered to give me my money back but asked "So you just wanted like a decaf shot?"

She knew how to make a coffee so plenty of people have ordered before, has no one really ever ordered decaf?!

Does she think that I'd be able to taste the absence of caffeine in this drink?

24.11.2025 20:16 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

So now I'm sitting here with my decidedly regular coffee bean latte trying to decide if I should drink it.

I really wish my small local coffee shop that I love was open on Monday's.

I have questions.

Has she never heard of decaf before? This place has brewed decaf every day.

24.11.2025 20:14 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

She continues "If it doesn't taste right, just come back up and we'll take care of it."

I don't have the energy to make a big deal of it and I'm not sure that I'd get anywhere with it even if I did.

24.11.2025 20:13 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

When she finishes she calls my name and I say "Did you find the decaf beans?" She says "Yeah, I made it decaf but the beans might not be right" (she says this while looking at the grinder's hopper full of regular beans).

24.11.2025 20:11 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

After a minute I hear her ask her coworked "he where are the decaf coffee beans?" He walks over and quietly says "we don't have any." There's some muttering for a couple seconds and he walks away. She goes on making the drink.

The worker at the store looked at me after I said decaf and asked "Decaf? So like no shots?" I said no, just with decaf coffee beans. She says "Oh I got you, OK." I pay. She says she'll start on it right away.

Several years ago I switched to drinking mostly decaf coffee. I still have a single cup of regular per day, but decaf is part of life now. I went to a coffee shop to do some work and I ordered a decaf carmel latte. This did not go according to plan...

My quote of the day

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.

I was at an arboretum recently and noticed a plant called globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) that seemed like it was likely fluorescent. Here's a paper showing its spectra www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/full/10....

I don't use AI on an everyday basis or nearly at all. I have been looking for a paper which I remember that showed expansion of bio samples so large that they are visible to the naked eye. I asked copilot and it found it immediately. It even gave me a real link that worked. I am devastated.

Cells Have a Death Switch That Protects Us from Viruses but Also Leads to Aging A special class of immune proteins protect us from pathogens but also drive inflammation and cell death

A new @sciam.bsky.social feature explores #research from the Halfmann Lab, revealing that our cells contain immune proteins that can instantly form crystalsβ€”triggering the cell to sacrifice itself when a virus invades. #SciSky

It's always funny to see these. The bar for effort on these type emails is so low. I believe in you, you can do it.

Has anyone tried using mesoscope.scripps.edu/beta/index.h... and CellPAINT2D to try to illustrate/simulate phase separation? You can make multivalent interactions, but they don't unbind, at least that I can figure out.
