Abstract A057: Endothelial protease-activated receptor 1 deletion preserves the blood-brain barrier and enhances functional recovery after ischemic stroke | Stroke Introduction: Ischemic stroke remains a leading cause of adult disability worldwide, with limited treatment options. Blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown is a key pathological event after stroke, as it...

I had the opportunity to give an oral abstract presentation on our work investigating the role of endothelial protease activated receptor 1 (PAR1) in promoting BBB breakdown after ischemic stroke in #ISC26 in New Orleans last week. Here is the link: www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/...

Dysregulated calcium signaling contributes to Alzheimer’s, but the molecular details are unresolved.

Here, Lauren H. Sansing & team report on changes of GLO1 with age & its association with calcium leak in degeneration, using mouse and macaque models: insight.jci.org/articles/vie...

Our results indicate that this model still needs further optimization to get reproducible stroke. The results paper from our feasibility study is out in β€˜Translation Stroke Research’ journal now. Thanks and congratulations to all coauthors from the Lyden lab and SPAN network.

To increase translational relevance, we tried to standardize rat thromboembolic stroke model to assess the feasibility for using this model in the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN).

While thromboembolic stroke model matches more closely with the inflammatory cascades of human ischemic stroke than our popular nylon filament model, it is hard to get reproducible stroke with less mortality in this model.
