WHAT IS WARSHONOMICS?
Kevin Warsh's dovish pivot since Donald Trump won in 2024 is staggering. Over a 20+ year career, he has pretty much always been a hawk: until now.
But on his real hobbyhorse, unwinding QE, Warsh remains remarkably consistent.

I don't travel to London for work as often these days. Tomorrow is a refreshing change - I am really looking forward to participating in the @tpximpact.com event: pages.tpximpact.com/foundational... amongst other meetings.
Doesn't time fly when you are having fun, and otherwise too.
title: The Writer in January Panel 1. βA short stroll...β says the writer aleaving the house. The sun has begun to peek over the horizon. Panel 2. βThen back to my desk for a good day's writing in the winter sun.β The sun has risen a little higher. Panel 3. βSurely it's not going down yet?β The sun is indeed on its way down. Panel 4. βPerhaps I'll catch the last rays.β Says the writer breaking into a sprint. Panel 5. The writer is back at home sitting at a desk saying βDamn!β. The sun is gone. The sky is gloomy.

It does not feel as if they (the expert community or our UK technical base of SMEs) are being championed. Which in the current climate does not seem optimal
Thanks @gavinfreeguard.bsky.social all good points. The lack of open working is unhelpful in so many ways. In past initiatives we have seen a community of experts drawn upon and some great UK based companies supporting a wider ecosystem.
Itβs 592 days since the Labour manifesto proposed a βNational Data Libraryβ.
571 days since the 2024 General Election.
DSIT have *finally* published something on the National Data Library: www.gov.uk/government/p...
It was not worth the wait.
How do you turn data ethics from a concept into a practice? Our latest blog explores our recent partnership with Global Fishing Watch, detailing a practical, two-pronged approach to ethical data management: Establishing Ethical Principles & Implementing Practical Tools. Read here buff.ly/Ewn2fLF

I totally missed seeing you there :-( would have been lovely to catch up
Tomorrow evening! It'll be great!
Hypothesis. The actual migration numbers don't matter *at all*. Instead plot "dissatisfaction with immigration" vs. "how much immigration is headlined in the media". People aren't riled up by new neighbours - but by what the press tells them to be angry about.
all extremely frustrating, depressing, aggravating
When I first moved to Wales, I was told that βnobody understood the Barnett Formulaβ. We really should - not only is it inherently unfair, but gaming it - whether over HS2 or employersβ NI - is how Westminster routinely denies Welsh Government the resources to discharge its responsibilities.
Imagine the Parliamentary Questions, the Times editorials, if a piece of national scientific infrastructure had been rendered inaccessible. Instead other than an honourable FT weekend piece, no one has paid any attention to the troubles continuing to beset our national library
(and presenters)
Enjoying the introduction to the talks virtually tonight at #pddatabites, shame I couldn't make this one in person.
Isaac will talk about the incredible results and impact of councilclimatescorecards.uk - and I'll whine about how we need to build obscure datasets like "a list of all the local authorities" to do it.

Every week we get an email or letter along the lines of "are you looking to sell the company, if so we can help" generally poorly framed, I wonder if these type of emails ever actually generate interest - they don't fill you with a sense of trust in the business
