A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

It’s important to go directly to the link, and read the rest of this to understand that people did in fact receive checks, but you have to read the rest of the article for further info.

Civic Duty – Art Food Soul

While I can’t attend every demonstration, I’m looking forward to getting to a few. It’s a way for me to practice Solidarity and my civic duty (which in all honesty has grown rusty over the past few years). I want to resist however I can so as to protect our civil liberties. (Continued on...)

Considering the trouble I’m having with my ricocheting thoughts lately, I’m not gonna try to write any words of wisdom, inspiration, etc. about all the shite happening in the States right now. Stay weird. Stay curious. Stay different. And fer goddess’ sake, don’t let the basturds get your down.

That was a good question. One of those instances when you toss the recipe, turn the cast iron down to the lowest heat, and forget for a couple hours or so. I usually read a good book, and make a cup of tea. ;-)

Would love a few! In the meantime, back to applying for my Irish passport. An acceptable photo for them and me is the trickiest part. :-)

Clarifying: my lab is still here; we are stopping new expts to focus on analyzing + pub'ing what's on hand. Instability at the fed level makes it difficult for scientists like me to take risks on discovery + innov. This impacts what research q's we can ask; this directly impacts what work we can do

There’s been a few I’m thinking of re-reading, too. Just finished Octavia Butler’s “Parable of the Sower,” which I’d never read before. It’s rather bizarre to think I’m escaping into the world of fiction, only to catch myself and say, “oh wait, th’shite’s real!”
