London centric as well, I bet they don’t ask how tall the Emley Moor transmitter is.
I would ask
1. Should you form a single queue at the bar in a pub?
2. Can you say anything other that “Busy tonight?” to a cab driver?
3. What is the most British way to split the bill in a Tapas restaurant?

I’ve never watched Person of Interest before but it is on Netflix so I thought I’d give it a go. Given season 1 was pre AI it is definitely interesting. Season 1, Episode 11 has some interesting thoughts, “It is a black box”

Baby spitting spider on a painted wall.
Hurrah, my spitting spiders are back. This one is really tiny and needs to eat. One day, I'll get to see one catching something.

Reform fury as someone else wins
by Our By-election Editor
Tim Shipsink
The losing candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Matt Goodwhinge, has demanded an immediate re-run of the election on the grounds that he lost
comprehensively to someone else.
"It's totally unfair and rigged,"
said Goodwhinge.
"I shouldn't
be required to sit there and suck it up, just because I lost."
Mr Goodwhine continued, *I can't believe that all those voters I demonised failed to back me.
Especially after I was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and ten million Russian bots on X.
"We have clear evidence of family voting, where people voted in order for me to stop deporting their families."
Mr Badloser concluded. "I'm the victim of colour prejudice.
They didn't vote for me simply because I'm not green."
Reform leader
Mr Farage,
speaking from a sun lounger on a rock near the Chagos Islands said,
"It's a tragedy that the people of Manchester won't see Matt in Westminster, but my constituents don't see me in Clacton either."
PLUMBER DEFEATS
MATT GOODWIN
Photo of Hannah Spencer with speech bubble saying…
I've stopped the cock
Beautiful from Private Eye on the massive toddler-tantrum that Matt Goodwin and Reform are having, because they got whooped in Gorton and Denton.

My photo shows part of a limestone wall panel carved in bas relief from the Fifth Dynasty mortuary temple of king Userkaf at Saqqara, Old Kingdom, 2465-2458 BC. It shows a Hoopoe, a crested bird with black and white wing pattern, and an ibis, with long curved beak, amongst papyrus plants in the marshes of the river Nile. My photo was taken in 2022 at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Lovely naturalistic relief of a Hoopoe and Ibis, carved by an Egyptian artisan some 4,500 years ago!

In the end it depended on how many people I was doing it for (just retired ). One or two I would contact them. More than thay I used Outlook availability. I’m old enough to remember secretaries calling each other trying to get groups together with diaries filling up between calls.

btw how the NHS works here is that every specialism is at a different hospital or community clinic site, so if you don’t drive then you’re paying £££ for taxis or taking all day taking three buses each way to get to an outpatient appointment. This is one of England’s biggest cities

If you want to know why we don’t have a tram or metro…most of us in Leeds use buses and they work on a hub and spoke system just in and out of the city centre and even then…nothing really works

I think I was the only person that voted in that Leeds one, IMHO Hilary Benn has proven a good local MP but at the time a lot of people complained that he had been parachuted in to a safe seat by the central party rather than selecting a good local candidate.

I started my career as a Körner implementation clerk in 1987. Since then I have spent most of my career in jobs with data, information or analyst in the title, all working with NHS data to try and improve public health. I retired last year. This is one of the most exciting developments I’ve seen.

Screen shot from Paul Embery’s X account:
Respect to this police officer. Confronted by radicals demanding the arrest of a Christian preacher on the grounds that Whitechapel "is a Muslim area" she was calm and professional and
gave them short shrift. Let's see more of this from the police.
Has a video of a woman police officer talking to a group of Muslim men
This clip is all over the other place and has made its way onto GB News and Talk TV so I’ll do a bit of an explainer here too!
The clip doing the rounds is of a fantastic police officer telling a group of Muslim men that a Christian preacher nearby is entitled to freedom of expression.

On a audio-only call and there was a bit of a kerfuffle in the background. Explanation: his cat has worked out that the most effective way to get his attention is to press the chair lever that makes the seat sink towards the floor, which is my new favourite mental image. Is this a common cat trick?

The discovery of insulin was just over 100 years ago, so again, it is less than 100 years ago that it was routine for people to die because they had diabetes.

Seeing another post made me think of this.
Antibiotics are less than 100 years old. Before then you could have died of many STDs or just a minor cut that had gone septic.
The first NHS kidney dialysis unit was
opened in 1956, 60 years ago. Without artificial kidneys people just died.
