Thor (wearing a winged helmet) attempts to drain a huge drinking horn - he doesnβt realise that the end of the horn is in the sea. Two giants look on amused. Text- Thor took a deep draught. To his surprise the horn seemed almost as full as before. He drank again, and this time thought he had emptied it. But it was still nearly as full, and Thor became angry. He took a third pull and drank till his breath failed him; but even then he saw that only a small part of the contents had gone.

The giants challenge Thor to a drinking contest. He is tricked into trying to drain the ocean. He doesnβt succeed but his mighty draughts do produce the tides. Delightful illustration from Newnes Pictorial Knowledge (1936)

a rusty crane on the edge of a cliff. this is Portland Bill in Dorset. On a bright but cold / windy day.
Haven't shared this one for a while, recorded in April 2022.
At the edge of a craggy rock promontory, near the giant lighthouse, there's strong sea wind, and an old rusted crane.

Atmospheric black and white photo of a ruined castle, on top of cliffs over looking the sea, with dark clouds above.
Storm clouds approach Dunskey Castle. Said to be haunted by a ghostly piper and a servant girl, plus home to a brownie known as The Hairy Man, the castle's clifftop, wave-lashed location has seen turbulent times.

Forever unrequited. What could a 160million years old geological formation possibly see in me?
No one plays a finer sgt major than Harry Andrews
Superb acting and outstanding cinematography, but a very bleak plot.
a collection of owls arranged in yin and yang formation, i.e. one with head turned to the right, with one eye showing, the 2nd owl in the circle upside down and facing towards the first owl, also one eye showing prominantly. There are also some stylized blossom with five petals. Linedrawing, black and white, Maria Strutz

My favourite Limestone. In the Cotswolds it was laid down in tropical shallow seas 140-210 million years ago.
I adore it but it never seems to notice me π
Sean Connery, Harry Andrews, Jack Watson, Roy Kinnear, Ian Hendry, Michael Redgrave, Ossie Davis, Ian Bannen. What more could you ask for?
The Hill.

*Such* a tale! Sublime - magic & yearning and utterly real and a gut punch all at once. Wow. Recomnended.
Arthur of the Britons. I remember rushing home from school to watch this. A re-telling of the Arthur myth with a cast of about 20. HTV did many excellent and inventive dramas like this. An unbeatable theme tune by Elmer Bernstein to boot.
Play loud.
