Canโt wait ๐คญ๐โ๏ธ๐
This is such a rich piece of half term reading from @carlhendrick.substack.com. Scaffolding is more complex than it might first appear. The contingency rule is hopelessly reductive, and instead tutors must make "uncertain judgements" about support #edpsychs

๐Thank you!
From our festival in September, we've been able to donate ยฃ2,200 to support the fantastic work of @aktcharity.bsky.social - who support LGBT+ homeless young people

(4/4) Certainly not criticising these interventions but without those everyday, low-pressure moments woven into the fabric of school life too, I wonder whether children get fewer chances to experience this full cycle often enough for lasting impact on their belonging & feeling valued as they are ๐ญ
(3/4) Picture 2 shows what this might look like in practice, focusing on the small, repeated moments within the classroom. If children are withdrawn for separate interventions, they might miss out on building these resources in the very environments where theyโre most naturally felt and grownโฆ
(2/4) Iโve been reflecting on this through Barbara Fredricksonโs Broaden & Build Theory of Positive Emotions (1998), one of my favourite theories from my DEdPsy training! This picture shows how safety, calm & positive emotion can โbroadenโ what feels possible & โbuildโ trust, confidence & belonging.
(1/4) Thread incoming ๐งต Iโve been thinking about how feeling safe is such an important foundation for connection with the self & others, but in reality itโs rarely a straight line from A to B. How do we help children build authentic connection with themselves and with others in everyday practice?
Looking forward to suggesting this to my trainee, we have a little duck pond outside our council office which I donโt give enough attention to! ๐ฆ
A seesaw model with a larger green circle tipping the balance showing the text โspeaking up confidentlyโ. The other side of the seesaw attempts to show how the combination of three alternative strengths which might come across as โquieterโ do not successfully tip the balance the other way. These are shown as three smaller circles, โresource organiserโ (blue), โidea illustratorโ (yellow) and โtime-keeperโ (orange).
Iโve been thinking about which strengths are most visible when people work together and particularly the ones that show up quietly but just as meaningfully. It feels just as true for children as for us as adults, making me think about how we create spaces where every contribution is valued ๐ญ
Text showing a quote โdiversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to danceโ (Verna Myers). Wiggly red line vertically on the left and a logo displaying โEdPsych Corner in the bottom-right corner.
I've started sharing reflections on instagram through "EdPsych Corner" about neuroaffirming social connections and wanted to share here too, starting with how I love this quote. Belonging isn't just about being there, it's about being valued, noticed & able to take part in ways that feel authentic ๐ซ
Wahhh!! This is gonna be MEGA! Canโt wait to tell you guys what weโve been planningโฆ
Save the date and tell your buddiesโฆ

Really recommend Motivational Interviewing training with @fionacoley.bsky.social and @drcathyatkinson.bsky.social. They bring such humility and warmth, valuing everyoneโs contributions no matter where you are in the learning hierarchy (for me, still at the acquisition stage but Iโm ok with that!) ๐คฉ
Fi and Cathy embody MI. They are compassionate and work in collaboration with the trainees. The spirit, skills and tasks are beautifully modelled throughout their sessions. Thank you so much!
Wow! What an inspiring day & a total privilege: conversations about MI in EP practice and learning alongside a group of really kind, knowledgeable & interesting EPs.
Thanks everyone for creating such a wonderful learning community โจ

2 or 3 - 3 - I feel like these pictures illustrate an intention to climb even if it might be tough along the way!
A lovely message to start the day, thank you โบ๏ธ itโs great to connect and follow what youโre up to on here as there is always an event I am itching to come along to! Take care and have a great day ๐ป๐
The location for our Macaron class, each of us sat at an island in the kitchen with a lovely green apron and a set of instructions
The Christmas-themed macarons with a glass of prosecco and cassis to spur us on
A wholesome weekend recharging and learning how to make macarons with my mumโฆ I hadnโt realised how complex the process was, especially the Italian meringue! Iโll savour every bite from now on ๐
Rhymes with tweet! ๐
Love the idea of incorporating the butterfly ๐ are you thinking of โflutterโ or something else? ๐ฆ
It seems that the EP community is steadily growing on here which is really exciting ๐
I had a funny conversation at the conference with @maxpurpose.bsky.social last week about what we can say instead of โI tweeted youโ โฆ all I could think of was โI blueskyed youโ ๐ what do we think? ๐ญ #EdPsychs
Yes please โบ๏ธ thank you for taking the time to do this!
Very excited to be at the Association of Educational Psychologists conference in Edinburgh ๐ it was a pleasure to talk all about positive disability representation and imagined contact. The nerves were quickly settled by a lovely audience, no surprise there with a group of #EdPsychs ๐ค #AEPConference
Looking forward to hopefully meeting you and @maxpurpose.bsky.social tomorrow ๐๐ฅณ๐
