Trying out my full-screen edge detection outlines shader on a proper mech model* in between writing docs for the system. I'm really happy that I can now render things in this style, It almost feels like I'm still a real artist!

Working on a team color outline shader.
This scene uses a single scriptable render feature and one full-screen shader graph shader for the effect.
Making basic outlines is easy but depth testing them properly and making them intersect is a whole different story..

Three more outline system process pics.
1st is with contour and distance field outlines and cross hatching. 2nd is a quick test using a sci-fi scene (needs work) and the third is a new full-screen edge detection shader using only view space normals.

Hehe yeah it’s getting harder and harder to describe also because the chain of functions is just getting longer and longer.. But it’s basically a fancy full-screen edge detection shader and toon shader combined and everything is done in post-processing. So no toon materials needed πŸ˜ƒ

It’s a combination of months of experimentation with this :)

Next thing i’m going to try is using an objects UV mask texture for the cross hatch texture mapping.

Thank you! I’m using depth, normals and color based sobel outlines combined with a reconstructed from view world space grid of textures, basically tri-planar mapped to the brightness of the camera color texture and modulated by the sobel magnitude. also.

Thanks! I really love this result too! The gif quality here doesn't really do it justice with all the thin lines but I hope it's visible in the other screen shots :) Will post some more images of this shader.
