Working on a team color outline shader.
This scene uses a single scriptable render feature and one full-screen shader graph shader for the effect.
Making basic outlines is easy but depth testing them properly and making them intersect is a whole different story..

Today I created a new normals-and-depth-based-edge-detection-jump-flood-algorithm-distance-field-contour-outlines shader. After thinking about how to do it for a few weeks the method just kinda came to me in my sleep yesterday.

Three more outline system process pics.
1st is with contour and distance field outlines and cross hatching. 2nd is a quick test using a sci-fi scene (needs work) and the third is a new full-screen edge detection shader using only view space normals.

Hehe yeah itβs getting harder and harder to describe also because the chain of functions is just getting longer and longer.. But itβs basically a fancy full-screen edge detection shader and toon shader combined and everything is done in post-processing. So no toon materials needed π

Itβs a combination of months of experimentation with this :)
Next thing iβm going to try is using an objects UV mask texture for the cross hatch texture mapping.

Thank you! Iβm using depth, normals and color based sobel outlines combined with a reconstructed from view world space grid of textures, basically tri-planar mapped to the brightness of the camera color texture and modulated by the sobel magnitude. also.
