Just finished reading The Zelmenyaners by Moyshe Kulbak ( trans. Hillel Halkin). Very enjoyable and interesting with a useful introduction by Sasha Senderovich. I had only read some of Kulbak's short fiction previously and was delighted to find this translation.
The most interesting book I've read this year is Peter Weiss's The Aesthetics of Resistance. It follows the political and artistic development of a young antifascist worker in '30's Berlin, civil-war Spain and Sweden. The discussions and arguements are still very relevant.
