I can't say that I'll be boycotting Chili's as it has been years since I've been in one, and you can't really boycott a restaurant you already don't go to. That said, I'll be happy not to change my habits, transphobia leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

NEW at Bolts: For years, Colorado has been ignoring a ballot initiative that was meant to eliminate forced labor in prisons.
A judge finally said enough, and ordered the state to stop punishing people for refusing to work (for a mere pennies).
On the big CO ruling:

This escalated fast, in a good way.
This is why I continue to maintain that AI is a tool of cognitive *automation* rather than mere offloading (after all, writing something down is offloading). It automates and thereby supplants the process of human thinking.
AI is fundamentally antithetical to the purpose of education.
Like everyone Palestinians want to live their lives with autonomy and freedom. Remote work opens up whole new paths to so many, we've seen how instrumental it can be in making everything better.
Support this and make it understood how vital it is to all of us, not just Palestinians.
It is a weakness of our system that the murder of 160 schoolchildren does not result in an immediate dissolution of the government.
Stoker: you can't just genderswap renfield!
Mary Shelley: shut up bram
Shelley: let her cook
Stoker: you wouldn't like it if someone genderswapped igor
Shelley: that's different
Stoker: see?
Shelley: CUZ IGOR ISN'T IN THE FUCKING BOOK
Shelley: WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS
the last few times iran has accepted a ceasefire, the US and israel have taken the opportunity to restock their weapons and then surprise attack iran again. "there's zero point in engaging in diplomacy with us any more" is what that strategy teaches
Much more likely we get "Trump attempts to make a Senator a horse" leading to a clearly terrified Lindsay Graham trying to trot everywhere he goes least he invoke the wrath.
just woke up drenched in sweat
bruce springsteen definitely misled me on this
Just a reminder that Muslims have been on this continent since the first arrival of non-Indigenous people. They were among the first generation of Americans, and have been here ever since.
anyway, its interesting that our ruling class and the media treat small family farms like an endangered lifestyle that should be saved with policy interventions while treating well-paid unionized blue collar workers as a doomed economic anachronism when the actual situation is the opposite.
Thatβs my university baybeeeee
This subject matter is very dark but Amy somehow has me hollering throughout
"Dickson was trying to address a major vulnerability of abortion bans to emerge since Dobbsβthe fact that women knew how to drive.
...Sadly for Dickson, people who need abortions know how to use the internet."

"Those valiant women became famous for their ferocious resolve on the line. 'One policeman can handle 10 men,' Lawrence's district attorney griped, "while it takes 10 policemen to handle one woman.' Journalist Mary Spicuzza reported much the same at the time: A group of enraged Italian women happened upon a lone police officer on an icy bridge. After stripping him of his guy, club and badge, they sliced the officer's suspenders and took off his pants - a humiliation technique popular with the disorderly women of Lawrence - and dangled the office over the freezing river."
Happy International Women's Day!
From @kimkelly.bsky.social's great book "Fight Like Hell"
this is amazing and wonderful. see the thread & replies⦠daniel had zero experience in this area and he's succeeding.
hey wanna see what I've been working on on-and-off all week that's been making me more and more depressed? dw-advocacy.dreamwidth.org/1493.html
I'm a veteran and I'm telling you to dodge this draft if implemented. It's your patriotic duty. this war mongering pedophile in power thinks you're a loser if drafted, refused to go himself & already got his kid exempt. Parents, don't let him take yours. Kids, run from that predator. Stranger danger
So admittedly I think some folks might need to remember that for a lot of academics the first real interaction we directly have had with "AI" writ broadly was either a) our laziest students trying to cheat or b) whole swathes of our profession being gutted by these kids who don't know anything.

Me (5β9β/170cm white woman, with dark short hair, glasses, and printed 3/4 length sleeve dress) standing next to my hung quilt, which has the green βcommissionerβs choice award hanging next to it
Close up on the award and my description for the quilt. The award looks like a fair ribbon with a little quilted logo of IHQS (i think a tulip basket?) and then βCommissionerβs Choice 2026β on the green ribbon. My description reads: β 307 Large Pieced Quilt Alexandra Wingate Bloomington, IN EPP Night Garden I loved a few quilts from IHQS 2024 that had black backgrounds contrasting with bold colored prints, and I wanted to create my own design using English Paper Piecing. I hope my love of floral and metallic fabrics comes through! Free-motion and ruler work quilted on a Bernina 570QE. Source: Original Design Made By: Alexandra Wingate Quilted By: Alexandra Wingateβ
Full view of the quilt. On a black background, there are many floral motifs in contrasting colors. A center square of printed fabric has a purple, orange, and gold circular floral design surrounded by a square border of green leaves. Around the central square on the sides are english paper pieced blocks of flowers in purples, golds, reds, and whites. At the corners are green leafy motifs (bridal bouquet). In the outer corners are green/blue butterfly motifs, and there are two flowers (penrose tiles) in between each of the butterflies along the sides. The border of the quilt is blue fabric and the binding is black. The whole thing is about 94β (239cm) square
So the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show was this week, and one of my two quilts won an award!! Commissionerβs Choice for βEPP Night Gardenβ! #quiltsky #DHmakes
