Phwoar, the forecast for the start of April. Room available from Tues 1 - Sat 5, looks like being an absolute beauty. Full board, fully licensed, beach side luxury rooms, awesome walks, private boat trips, traffic free, total peace, extremely sustainable. Go on, you know you deserve it!
Stuck for holiday ideas? Doune could be the answer! As well as our typical 3,4 or 7 night stays we have special weeks - Munro Bagging and a fully inclusive #Knoydart immersive experience - explore and learn about about off-grid, traffic free living. Check the website for details.
A wee dusting of snow on the #Knoydart Munros today, Rum and Skye #Cuillins too. fancy a short break at Doune or to make it your main 2025 holiday? Check our website for availability and prices. Trips are full board and our Knoydart Experience weeks are all inclusive!
What a day yesterday was. AM we got Gripper into the boat shed for a big spruce up over the next 6 weeks. PM we got a piano into the restaurant using Stonehengesque techniques of levers and rollers. 100% success rate!
To some this won't seem important, but to us it's huge.
We have an #offgrid living milestone moment here at Doune #Knoydart, 30 days in a row with no diesel generator, all our power supplied by #solar and #hydro. With more full sun to come this week, we'll get even further!

Let me introduce you to Gavin, our boatman for the 2025 season after Skipper Andrew doing the last 3 years. Gavin was boatman in 2013 and 2014 and has thought of Doune every day since. Redundancy provided the catalyst to get back in touch about a return and we were quick to say yes!
Ask yourself this: "Why am I getting ready for work tomorrow in cold, wet Englandshire when I could be on holiday at Doune #Knoydart. I could even be 'working from home' at Doune!"
We'll look forward to it.
Hello Faye and welcome.
Roinne na Beinn. Best 441m in the world? I think so. A favourite back door walk for Doune #Knoydart guests, ably guided by Annie and Rubha and offering unsurpassed views of Outer Isles, Small Isles, Skye, Rona, Loch Nevis, Ladhar Bheinn and much more. Summit T-shirt weather on 9 Feb, incredible!!!
We opened up our rooms for these two weeks for winter breaks and had no takers. Calm, warm and sunny. Regrets anyone?
Watching Shetland, Crรก and An t-Eilean and getting a craving for a remote, Celtic wIlderness? A stay at Doune offers the scenery and a lot more - great food, amazing wildlife, boat adventures, stunning sunsets and superb company. But no murders obviously! Link in bio to book.
Never the same day twice. Up early to take the landing craft to collect the deer shot yesterday and recover the broken down Gripper. A long trip back to Mallaig with 2 boats in tow for the engine doctor to take a look. Off. Non-stop, but Incredible scenery. G'day @isleofrum.bsky.social
Never eat yellow snow as an alternative Nick!
My turn to cook dinner tonight's, so there's tatties in the fire and beans and bacon on top. I won't be leaving it unattended with the two innocent looking guzzlers on standby for a slipup, though they might be caught very red pawed! #winteratDoune
Another day recovering sounds like an excellent idea Nick. Long distance walks have to start slowly or one ends up exhausted after 2-3 weeks. I'll be recovering Gripper tomorrow and towing her back to Mallaig for a repair.
You'd be very welcome to stay with us and have a good explore of the peninsula. We've got some all inclusive, fully immersive weeks this year, exploring the 3 main glens and learning all about the culture, history and environment.
What a day! Gripper looks lovely on the Abraham's mooring in Loch Hourn after dropping off the deer stalkers. Sadly she wouldn't start again after, so it was a long walk, quad bike, walk, land rover, second land rover and snowy walk back home. To Airor and Inverguseran neighbours - thank you!
Absolutely, no account is complete without some feline verification!
We're 'moving' across! We can't give up on all those folks on X, but hopefully they'll make their way over here.
Thanks Nick, I'll do my best.
The year of my birth Stuart! It'll have changed beyond measure for you, but it remains very special.
Oh my, our first ever post on Blue Sky as we hopefully transition away from X. We'll post news, views (of the scenic type), pets, and tales of off grid, sea access, remote living and running a business. Hope to encourage lots of you to visit us at Doune, Knoydart and become part of the experience.
