If you pay more attention, you'll see that even cities are full of non-human life. I was sitting at a traffic light when I had a moment with this little cattle egret. Pigeons are wildlife. Starlings. Lizards. Insects. Possums. Armadillos. Falcons nest in skyscrapers, bats in the bellies of bridges.

As a person of ambiguous ancestry from Idaho, I very much relate. I have learned to recognize a particular "what are you?" facial expression. The words that accompany it vary, but the look is always the same mix of conflict and curiosity. "How do I ask this without being a dick/racist?"
