Think I'm starting to realize that we live in a world in which every opinion is viable and the key is just having an opinion that's less crowded and therefore has its own gravitational pull.

5. Marvel Rivals.
Rivals is chaos. But Marvel and NetEase absolutely flex on art style. Every animation and cinematic is wonderfully overproduced.
HOWEVER, Overwatch might have slightly better character design? Does OW's cartoonish proportions better help visually sort out the fray? Not sure yet.
Well, this is good timing. Adding to the reference pile.
Focus summarized nicely, from @theweek.com:
"Is this return to once-abandoned mediums simply an exercise in nostalgia, or are the apparent flaws in the streaming ecosystem truly driving people back into the arms of tape decks and video game cartridges?"

4. Wicked.
I'm trying to remember if I've ever described a movie I've seen (in theaters) as magical. Or wonderful. I dunno. Maybe never.
Anyway, Wicked was that and more.
I don't know if it's a rubber band effect of me never having seen the play, but I don't care. Give it all the awards.
3. Trap.
Fun, with such strange quirks. Dialogue is written, shot, and timed like an Elder Scrolls game. Especially Mr. Hartnett, but I guess he was supposed to be cartoonishly, socially aloof.
M's (or... M. Night's?) daughter was a surprise, so good for her.
Maybe not super memorable, but fun!
I LOVE powerpoint parties and have gone to a few but I've discovered that it's a VERY socially dangerous thing to tell people...
For example, very much inspired/fueled by Green Day's 'Dookie Demastered'.
Something something expired nostalgia is innovation again.
Mostly doing this on LinkedIn for professional purposes, but I'm working on the first of a series I'm calling Unlockable Jaunts.
Basically going to post things that I find/collect while on a deep dive into a physical renaissance that's happening in brand, culture, etc. right now.
Ready...go!
2. Yellowjackets S1.
Had on my list for a while and it finally dropped on Netflix. Really good. Characters are a little swing-y and jarring in their personalities at times, but the casting is BANG on. The most impressive part, by far.
Unfortunately now have to avoid S2 spoilers like the plague.
"Bluesky is social media New Game +" isn't a bad messaging strategy for a very small group of people.
Save us, Trent Turkey.
One of the biggest lessons I've ever learned is that the correct response to "I could have done that," is "yeah, but you didn't."

The scene of the band playing "Psychic Wound" was absolutely one that I thought I dreamt up until I watched it again all the way through. The whole film is a dream state.
1. Fell asleep in the middle of I Saw the TV Glow ~three!~ separate nights (my fault, not the film's) in a particularly exhausting October week.
If you've seen the movie, you can imagine how this puts an already odd experience into a brain blender. Regardless, it's stuck. Might get its own thread.
Nothing like starting a 2024 Media Thread with 44 days left in the year.
Updates might be in real-time. Also could be things I just remembered that I consumed this year. Who knows. Enjoy!

π Hello, Bluesky. I'm Nick.
Moved here for a healthier approach to social media, so I mostly plan on just posting about things I appreciate and why.
At the same time, I'm currently building my own creative strategy studio. Periodic updates on that will be here, too.
A little bit more about me...
